This may be the stress and nervousness talking, but I thought this forum was a place of support. I felt like if I was having an issue with my bulldog I could come here and get some comfort and advice. Now, we are facing the biggest issue we have had since getting George and nothing... I've never had a dog undergo surgery and as a first time bulldog owner I am absolutely terrified. I thought that I would get a small bit of advice at least on the anesthesia part of the surgery, but nothing. I don't know what to expect and I don't even know what to think at this point. I guess having been less active for the past few weeks made this issue of less importance, maybe no one has gone through this (highly unlikely), maybe there is no advice and we are just screwed. I love my dog like a child and feel back into a corner and I am petrified about him having surgery tomorrow. I just wanted one comment or one piece of advice... Something to help comfort me so that I can be strong for him. Nothing...

Hi Elizabeth, I'm just reading this post now, and I'm sorry you didn't get a response to your earlier post, I haven't been home today as I babysit my grandson, and I'm sure the timing of your post at 12:30 in the morning might also have to do with it as many people may have been sleeping at this time. I have never seen anyone post on here that didn't get a response or help from our members. We always try to help, or give reassurance and advice whenever we can.
I understand your worries and fears about George going under anesthetic, as there is always a risk with surgery, even with people. I also understand how you feel about your baby, we all feel the same way about our bullies, they are like our children, and we worry about them. Bullies do have increased risks due to their breathing issues, but if you have a good vet and one that has experience with bulldogs and you are comfortable with him, and you have asked him the questions you have, he will be fine. I had my male bully Bulldozer neutered and his sister Blossom spayed when they were 7 months old, and Blossom also had surgery on both her eyes for cherry eye. They both did well and had no complications and both had quick recoveries. What kind of surgery is George having? Is he staying overnight or coming home the same day? Our guys both came home the same day after staying in recovery for the day. The hardest part was keeping them quiet and not jumping or playing while they were healing, but the healing was quick, and within a week they were both back to themselves. I wish you and George good luck tomorrow, I'm sure he will be fine, I know you will worry until it's over and he's back home. Please keep us posted on how he's doing. Sending love, hugs and prayers your way.

I have not been on alot in the last few days. I am sorry you are going through this. It sounds like you are doing the very best for George. I will pray for him through his surgery.

Please don't take it personal a lot of us are busy and just haven't been on and I'm sure a lot of us are dealing with the snow and may be offline as we are from all over the world here. I hope you have a vet that is a bulldog specialist and although I have not experience with surgery for my bullies I will keep George in my thoughts and prayers for a successful outcome. I hope you will keep us posted.

Elizabeth, I am sorry for not responding. I was at a funeral for a family member and was not on the forum for a few days. It is so hard on our nerves when these babies go under anesthesia. What is George having done? My Mabel had the full brachycephalic surgery package done about two years ago. I was a wreck!

Sorry Elizabeth, it's understandable you are nervous, upset & worried
about George going into surgery, a lot of us have been there. As far as
the support here, EBN is one of the most supportive groups I've ever
found so guessing your post just didn't get seen or those viewing had no
experience and didn't comment, very unfortunate but not usual.

Sending prayers for you & George, please let us know how he's doing
post op, hoping your Vet can explain and give helpful advice too.

Elizabeth, I just want to send hugs, prayers, and support for you and King George. I'm pretty sure you've done everything that needs to be done and so just hang in there a little bit longer and trust that the vet is doing everything in his power to do a good job by George. Let us know how it went. And just take it easy for a while - if you can postpone things in your to-do list, it would be good to do so just so you can just concentrate on getting through this surgery. And don't be embarrassed or afraid to tell your boss - I need personal time off to care for my dog. A lot of times, people don't feel it is ok to take a day off from work for a pet... even those that don't have pets understand how pets are important to one's peace of mind. Good luck.

I haven't been around much lately. Have a lot going on in my life right now.

I just read your other thread about kidney stones. There haven't been that many members here who have gone through it so that could be why you haven't received many responses. Many may be thinking you're looking for advice on kidney stones specifically so aren't posting.

This is a great forum for support, just give people a chance
Oh, and start a thread titled "my boy's in surgery" and keep updated. I promise you'll get tons of responses with advice, good wishes and prayers.

And yes, we know how you feel. Half of us have been there, myself numerous times.. so yeah we understand the worry.

I'm gonna assume your vet's very familiar with bulldogs and their special needs while under anesthesia, so all you can do right now is try to keep calm. Once he's home, you'll probably need to put him on a special diet for the stones. He'll also have meds to help stabilize his belly (think omeprazole and probably something for vomiting). All this is normal.

Other than that, just let know what the vet says and maybe we can help..

Positive vibes and prayers for George!! I'm sure he'll be fine!!

So sorry you didn't get a response Elizabeth. Of course you are worried and upset! I know I have a tendency to check in and click the "what's new" button. I realized when I didn't get much of a response to a couple of my posts, that they didn't appear on he "what's new" page. Maybe that could have been a factor??

Winnie was spayed when she was 6 months old and did fine. Although we hear a lot of the scary stories about anesthesia at EBN, most bullies come through like champs. Good luck to Georgie. I'm sending positive thoughts your way!

I'm so sorry in didn't see your post and at least wish you well. I haven't been on much except to rant about my frozen water pipes, not really reading other posts.

I totally understand your fear. I don't have Ruckus neutered mainly because I don't want him to have to undergo that if it's not needed.

However lots of bullies have procedures and come out a little groggy for a few days but just fine.

I don't have any experience with kidney stones, I wish I could help more!

How did the surgery go?

I'm very new here, but won't be able to be on as much as I have been. I took some time off work since I just brought my new pup home 4 days ago! :)

Wish I had advice, but I don't have experience with dog surgery....however I've been an Operating Room nurse for many years, and I have plenty of anesthesia experience with humans. ;)

I know that due to the anatomy of bulldogs, they can be at higher risk for airway troubles. However, when you choose a vet experienced with the breed, your baby will be in the safest care possible!

What procedure is he having done?

Ugh I'm sorry for my rant! I have been in major stressed out bitch mode. (Feel sorry for my poor husband). Everything went smoothly with the surgery. Just post-op worries and stresses now.

Elizabeth, I did see your post and the reason I didn't respond is because I don't have any experience w/kidney surgery. I tagged the only member that I knew who was familiar w/stones… My internet has been going off w/the snow & ice storms that we are having. In the future if you tag your post as being URGENT then we will try to get to your post ASAP…
