    Default won't leave my side!!!

So, normally Ollie is attached to my husband's side. Last week I had a flare up of my back/sciatica again, (i've been on medical leave at my work for nearly a yr due to these back issues) It was horrible still is actually, I had to go to the ER, who really said they couldn't do much since i'm being seen by a specialist/pain management dr. Ollie will not leave my side, he has never really showed me much affection, he's been giving kisses, following me around, sits/lays wherever I am, licks my legs and feet. I guess dogs really do know when your not feeling well, something is wrong. My horrid paiin in my back is pretty much gone, still sore but not to the point I was last friday I almost called 911 and for me that is huge! My family know's if I go to the ER something is really wrong! So my pain is about gone but my butt/legs/feet are numb/ yes both legs and feet, one side is worse then the other but it's def not a fun way to live!! Anyhow I just thought it was interesting How ollie has taken to my side now, I've been sleeping in the spare bed as it is higher and firmer so easier for me to get in and out of, my husband was telling me goodnight, Ollie broke in Jumped up (painfully right in my spine he couldn't have hit the worse spot possible if he tried) his paw landed smack in my spine and laid next to me looking at my husband like, no i'm sleeping here tonight! Of course his shenanigans put me in tears but I thought it was sweet how he's been so loving to me, wonder if it'll last!!! Hoping of course this pain/numbness won't!!

It is awesome how bulldogs do this. My youngest was crying last night because he hurt his toe and Gunny showered him with his tongue and would not leave him alone. It was so cute how he was trying to comfort him. They have such big hearts!

I am so sorry for you pain. I hope you get on the road to recovery.

So sorry to hear of your back problems. I am not trying to "one up" you-just want to tell you that I KNOW how you feel. I have been through what you are going through off and on for 39 years. I have had back surgeries, but it still "flares up" every so often. I am never pain free, but I learned to live with it. BUT when I have a "flare up", as I call it-it is agony. I have muscle relaxers, and pain pills, which I do not take until emergency-but I can feel your pain! I also had the same numbness. I still have one foot and ankle that is numb-but yet felt like "pins and needles". It took me a long time to "learn" not to feel that. Before my last surgery, I had to walk with a cane(when I could walk) and luckily my husband was still here, to help me, and take care of the animals. Now, I go to my Chiropractor when I can't take the pain-and he is so good, he usually gets me in pretty good shape after 3 visits! I cringe reading about your "baby" jumping on you-but they always worry, when something is wrong, and want to be a little too close. I pray that you will feel better soon......Have you ever been to a GOOD chiropractor? He saves me when I can barely move..........

I have thought about a chiro however i'm hesitant, one our insurance will not pay for chiro's and 2 knowing that my a few of my disc are bulging i'm worry about more harm being down that good, I'm not saying the thought hasn't really went thru my mind.. I am on pain meds, muscle relaxers, neurotin...plus others I feel like a walking drug store!! The ER wanted to give me predisone which I have taken for a flare up before, but I had an infection and he didn't want to give it to me with the infection (I went to the Navel hosp, which I don't see their drs, my specialist and PCM is in town so i'm guessing that's part of it) I honestly was telling one of my friends that I need a walker short term, with the numbness (pins in needles exactly) I have to hang on to something to walk, so I can't go to far without a wall, counter or something! None of this started until I had my son, I had a c-section and when they were doing the spinal block they had trouble getting it right, I know they hit nerves a few times b/c sitting on the Operating table my legs "jumped" several times, also they punctured the area around the spinal column which caused the spinal headache, worst feeling ever really!! my son was about 3 months old when I had the first flare up!! They say that my disc and the cushion around them are still well enough that I don't need surgery, which I also am hesitant about as well, heard lots of horror story's and a friend is in a wheelchair pretty much permanently from 3 failed surgery's, he had them at Duke so a very good hosp to have a surgery at!!! Anyhow thanks for the thoughts i've rambled too much, prayers appreciated!!

On a side note- have thought about acupuncture, which our insurance doesn't cover either and from what I researched, it would take at least 8-10 visits for any effect to take place and at about 100bucks a pop that's out too!!

Wish you were closer-my chiropractor is wonderful. He also is an animal chiropractor. He sure knows his stuff. My visits aren't covered, but thank goodness he is honest, and doesn't make me keep coming back! I have also heard the bad stories about back surgeries-mine went well-though I didn't opt for the last one. Prayers for you-I know it wears you out dealing with the pain. I went with surgery 'cause I couldn't take it anymore.Best Wishes!

Jessica, I'm so sorry your'e suffering with the chronic pain. I see so many patients here at the VA who are on multiple pain meds yet don't really find too much relief. I was just going to suggest accupunture til i read your post. I hope the pain will decrease and you'll be feeling much better soon.
That's very sweet that Ollie has been with you, by your side. I know he senses your discomfort and wants to protect and comfort you.

I'm so very sorry to hear about your chronic back pain!!! I was seeing a chiropractor last year because of a rear-end car accident, my neck & lower back were a mess. It really did help me, but I know that every case is different. I hope that you will feel much better soon Thanks for sharing the story about Ollie, bullies really seem attuned to our emotions all the time. They are wonderful companions!!!
