Default Carpal Ligament weakness - 11 week old - LOKI

    Hi Folks,

Thanks for all the replies to my previous post. we got to know that Loki is suffering from Carpal ligament weakness and we are advised to take him to walk on sand for 10-15mins but no medicines/vitamins.
we are planning to give him cod liver oil. Do you guys recommend anything to strengthen his legs?

I never heard of this and when I searched to read up, I could not find any information .

Please keep us posted and if possible ask the vet if this has another name associated with it

I have read that going for walks as you said-in sand, several times a day is good exercise to strengthen ligaments, and low protein grain free diet.

This is something Great Danes (and giant breeds)are prone to. My GD had issues with this when he was a fast growing pup. yes walks and exercise are essential. If you stay on top of it, it should resolve quickly...

As other have suggested, low protein diet will definitely help.

As far as supplements...there were all types of advice online from this woman called the Great Dane Lady. I'm not sure if any of the supplements helped our GD (He ended up needing surgery and plates to correct the issue).

I would definitely exercise as much as possible.

Did your vet recommend seeing an orthopedic specialist? They can help with brace supports if necessary.

Just to add, the reason this is so common in giant breeds is because they grow super fast, so low protein diets help slow their growth (I want to say 23% protein + 12% fat is the recommendation). My guy in particular developed the issue because he broke his leg near the elbow growth plate when he was about 15weeks. He was growing fast but his growth plate in that elbow wasn't able to keep up

I haven't heard about this happening frequently in bulldogs but I have seen some small dogs with it. Really stay on top of the exercise. Essentially it is like physical therapy. I would really suggest seeing a specialist even if your vet didn't recommend one ..the education I received from the orthopedic was very useful.
