Overgrown nose issue

Since Porkchop's tongue can't reach his entire nose to "exfolliate", I put coconut oil on it at least 5 days a week and then he'll rub it on the carpet (or wherever) and little nubs will come off. However, lately that isn't working well. I attached a photo here. (It's the best shot I could get and I don't know why it goes sideways here.) His nose is gummed up and looks sort of brown, maybe food?, and though I scrub lightly with a wet washcloth, not much comes off. But the bigger problem is his breathing. It appears that the nose tissue is starting to block the left nostril. I listen to him breathing and that one nostril seems to not get much air flow.

He'll be 10 years old in June and an unlikely candidate for surgery. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a remedy short of surgery?

Thanks.

I use Aquaphor when the coconut oil isn't available. I used Snout Soother for a short time but it was really hard to put on in that it wasn't very soft. If this coronavirus issue lets up, I may take him to our vet.

I bought some Snout Soother as Buster's nose was a bit crusty when we got him. It has worked well. I put it on twice a day, immediately before I put his food down so he concentrates on that instead of licking it off. The Snout Soother I have isn't hard, more like a firmer vaseline.
I don't know what to suggest about it maybe closing up except like you say, a vet visit.

Thanks.

Wash the area with a warm cloth and then apply the coconut oil, it helps it to absorb. Aqua pho’s is great as is mushers secret

I'll try your method and 1Chumly's twice a day recommendation. Thanks all!

My boxer Roxie had a horrible time w/her nose... I would take a washcloth w/warm water, and gently rub her nose. Some of the crusty part would eventually rub off... then I would pat it dry and add Aquaphor. I had to do this daily for several weeks, and then I got to a maintenance of about once a week.

We used Kerasolv with great success. Vet prescribed only.
I have, however, seen a similar product called Solva-ker...not sure if it’s Scrip only or not.

I use Solva-Ker on his paw pads due to uneven wear. He's got neurological issues in his back and his feet don't hit the ground like they used to. It works great on those. But I was scared to use it on his nose, fear of getting it in his eyes or up his nose. You didn't have any problems using it on the nose?

Look up Sniffy Wiffy. That's what you need. Amazing stuff! That will actually start falling off his nose after a few days of using the product. Gross but awesome.

That was two years ago. It looked great but now it looks similar to the before pic again. Time for more Sniffy therapy. She doesn't like it but I distract get with a toy and she's good to go.

My first bully would get this on his nose. Once it got really bad. The vet gave us an antiviral for it and it cleared it up fast. Might be worth checking with your vet.
