Hi friends!

I have a 6 year old girl who has battled back to back UTI's over the last few months. She gets better on antibiotics (Clavamox) but once she stops it comes back. We saw a specialist yesterday who did an in depth ultrasound and we ruled out kidney stones, other problems, so they are recommending the vulvoplasty. It's expensive ($2500) and it sounds incredibly painful to put her through. Has anyone done this? What was recovery like for them? Is it worth the money?

we went through this with our girl when she was about two years old I can’t remember the cost as that was back in 2007 2008 timeframe. But although it looked painful and sore it was the best thing we did for her as her UTIs had totally stopped once we completed the surgery. She lived to be nine and never had another UTI after having the vulvaplasty done

I did one to my Josie many years ago. It was less than $1K. The surgery can be done by most any good "Bulldog" surgeon. It leaves a large horseshoe-shaped wound and looks really nasty, for quite some time. Initial recovery is relatively quick(2 days) and as soon as stitches come out(10 days or so), it's business as usual. The wound, however, will not look good for several months...or until the slow-growing hair eventually hides the incision.
