Hi - I'm hoping there are some with Olde English/Leavitt Bulldogs here - I'm not sure if this is breed-specific behavior. My last dog, Winston Churchill, was a Frenchie, and he was waaaay different as a puppy from my 12 week old Samantha. I've had Samantha since she was 8 weeks old. I know the Olde English breed has at least 50% English, but without some of the health problems they and Frenchies are prone to. She's super clever, but is very difficult to wind-down.

Samantha is a biter. Not "mouthy" in the cute way puppies sometimes lightly gnaw on everything - she's liertally biting me to the point of broken skin. Her teeth are sharp! She mostly bites my hands and toes (especially when I'm walking), but she's started biting my nose, chin and cheeks now, too. I know that she's teething, and I've used the positive techniques of replacing my body parts with chew toys, trained on "no bite" and "leave it" (which only gets me so far unless I always have a treat handy), a spray of water to the face, putting "yucky" products on my hands and feet, and yipping loudly in pain. I don't think she's agressive, since she's usually in play mode.

She never licks - only bites. It's hectic.

Can anyone advise on Olde English puppy mentality or on a successful way to stop the biting?

We just had a discussion today about this. Basically it’s patience n yes scolding. It’s all cute at that age and we are scare to punish them. I always grab the jowls each side a s give a good quick yank with a firm NO. Works great.

scolding, and deterent products are your best solutions.

I'm a big proponent of the Pet Corrector spray! I post about it a lot lol. But honestly it has stopped Tayto from doing the things he shouldn't be like jumping, humping, biting or barking. Check it out on Amazon.

Sometimes all they need to know (which that "pet corrector" does) is when you say no you mean no what ever it is. It just gives you power behind your NO then they understand the word for many uses. Look it up, its pretty quick learning with no pain they just dont like it.

I just ordered two cans. I think you're right - my "no" has lost all meaning for her. In fact, when she has an appendage in her mouth, my saying "NO" makes her clamp down even harder. I'm looking forward to "pet corrector".

yep, works great but...............be careful 'how' you use it so you dont desensitize them to it. It's a "corrector" not a trainer... As in, when they jump on someone you use (and not AT them,,, infarct i think most of us hide it behind our back with a NO first and then the immediate push the noise button ;) Anyway, read the 'hows' so you know ,,, well, how to use correctly :) Good luck! i think it is brilliant as well :)

After saying NO... turn your back to her and ignore.

Look up ‘nothing in life is free ‘ very easy training technique
