Hello! I was wondering if someone can give me suggestions on what bones I can give my 4 month old bulldog. What brand? can I get it from a butcher shop? What do I ask for? Is a beef bone good for him? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Raw marrow bones are good. Boutique pet stores usually sell them frozen but you can probably get from butcher. Just make sure you freeze before giving. Nylabones are good as are buffalo horns.

All should be given while supervised.

Cbrugs said it all !! Oh and if you see marrow bones cooked n brownish colour...NO NO! Raw n frozen only as all bacteria and little creepy crawlers are dead. Why you always feed raw frozen. Great for their gut! And NO rawhide :nonono:

Freezing just kills parasites, not bacteria. But since food passes through the dog's intestinal system so fast, bacteria such as salmonella and listeria which can be deadly to humans would only at worst cause nausea and diarrhea in a dog unless it was immunocomprimised. Just be careful to wash your hands after, in a FDA study, 15 of 196 raw pet foods were positive for salmonella and 32 of 196 for listeria.

Also, the reason not to give cooked bones is because they can splinter and cause internal injury. if you want to give cooked bones they have to be ground.
