Hello All,

So Mugsy, the king of the castle, has had this issue his whole life. It first started when he was just a pup and we found blood all over whenever he'd get excited. So he was neutered and the vet told us it would bleed from time to time but wouldn't do anything but be an inconvenience to him. It happens maybe once or twice a year, where he'd just start dripping blood (just drops) all of a sudden and it would stop within a matter of hours...it would never be a constant drip or stream....it's not in his urine or anything either.

I searched the forum and found a couple threads talking about it.

Has anyone had the procedure to fix this done to their bully?

Did they have to put your bully under?

How is your bully after the procedure?

His quality of life is as good as it's ever been, since he just lost his companion, Baby, on Thursday.

I'm glad he's doing well as far as missing his companion. Don't know about the other but hopefully someone else will

Hi there! My bully puppy Bobo has now had TWO surgeries for this. First surgery was done at an Emergency Vet hospital and was a disaster. Then searched out a vet clinic that specializes in English BDs and he had his second procedure. Second one was pretty successful and he is not on a regiment of female hormones. The combo has worked, I know long term we cannot keep him on the hormones but they are hoping between the surgery, the hormones and more time passing since we had him neutered, he will no longer get "excited" as much about EVERYTHING lol and it will be under control. We had ALOT of blood, or it looked like it, every time and we were really getting despondent. Yes, they did have to put him under for the procedures and to remove the sutures, but he did well and the vets doing the surgery are breeders and have shown and cared for bullies for over 30 years, so I felt very confident. I can tell you I have now discussed English bulldog erections more than I ever ever ever imagined I would hahah, but we are now getting more optimistic each day. I hope this helps~ my best advise is to find a vet that knows bullies and try the hormones! Good luck with Mugsy...here is our Bobo Bobo Camp.JPGBobo Camp.JPG

Since we moved down to Miami, from West Palm Beach a few years ago, we had trouble finding a vet close to our home just in case of emergencies. Luckily we found a vet that does work for Buddies through Bullies and we're very happy with the service and information we're receiving from them.

We've been reassured that it's not painful for him, just an inconvenience. My wife last night spent the majority of an hour around 2am with baby wipes cleaning him because his legs and underside were covered in blood and he was going nuts licking himself trying to clean himself up. He's almost due for a check up, so we'll probably bring up the dialog about getting this fixed now that, unfortunately/fortunately all our money isn't going towards Baby's medical bills now that she's crossed the rainbow bridge.

Thank you for the info LauraLouC

My 2 1/2 yo EB has had 4 surgeries for this, itā€™s the same every time. We notice the red bulldogs on the end of his penis, then he starts to bleed, we take him to the specialist and they fix it. Itā€™s never painful for him but they said it has to be fixed. They told us itā€™ll probably happen 1-2 per year for the rest of his life. We used to panic, now we just have a savings account for him and hope for the best. Never heard of the female hormones (he is fixed) maybe Iā€™ll bring it up next time!
