So I took Jax and Louie to daycare today, same daycare Jax has been going to for 4 years. This is only Jax’s second time at daycare since his surgery. I got a call around 11am that Jax was involved in a scuffle and separated because he sustained an injury to his ear and was bleeding and he should see a vet. So I call my vet and he was booked up but said he’d squeeze him in. So my boyfriend picked up Jax and took him to vet. Vet said he needed sutures and would need to be sedated.

After work I went to pick Louie up and the owner showed me the video. There were 3 dogs involved. Hero grabbed a poop bag from the worker and other dogs all went after it. Nola grabbed it and then Jax tried to grab it from her and she got mad and grabbed Jax by the ear and literally lifted him off the ground. The owner told me and apparently the other two owners that we needed to work on the leave it command and if our dogs weren’t going to listen, they wouldn’t be able to go back. This is the first time in 4 years Jax has ever been involved in an incident. My first reaction is peace out. My second reaction is if dogs are fighting, saying the leave it command is not going to stop them.

And the vet bill was $300. I am planning on asking Nola’s owners to pay this expense.

oh this just rips my heart!! It had to throw you for a loop as well and yes, I think since the video clearly shows what happened, that it should be paid for. Your dog paid his price, and they can pay the vet. How sad and so sorry you had to have this happen so soon after recovery. Poor baby :(

Ouch, poor baby. I hope it heals quickly and Jax feels better soon. I would definitely ask the owners of the dog who caused the injury to pay for the vet bill.

Well I’m now at the ER. His back legs have been trembling ALL night and because he has IVDD, I’m not willing to take any chances or waste any time. Trembling is how is started with his neck in July. So of course now I’m beating myself up over taking him to daycare. [emoji29]

Geez poor little Jax. Maybe its just trauma that kicked in afterwards and he'll be fine with some tranquility n hugs. I have a rule...no more dog parks as it ruined my GS n Nyala got worms, no daycare n only ones to babysit the pups are my sons. Dogs will get into fights in daycares, parks if the owners dont show who's alpha. But sometimes their hands are tied as it's not their dogs n dont want to get sued or accused. Please keep us posted on little Jax!! He got through flying colours last time so chin up! Sending positive thoughts!!!! :pray2:

I am praying for poor little Jax. He has been through so much. I believe the daycare should be partly responsible, unless there is some kind of contract saying they are not.Seems they should do a better job grouping the dogs. I know that, like horses, they can be unpredictable, though. Just hoping that Jax was just having a delayed reaction, and is not seriously hurt. Cbrugs :pray:

So as suspected, the ER vet told me he was fine. My response? Last time he was here I was told he was fine and that he did not have IVDD and then a week later he was having surgery and he does have IVDD. And I basically demanded that he be seen by the neurologist that did his surgery. So I left him there and at some point today the specialist will see him. I just don't trust ER vets. And yeah, I am hoping it's just trauma or maybe pain from his ear but the fact that he was trembling literally ALL night constantly and that it was his back end and legs is what has me worried. Dogs can become paralyzed from IVDD so I would rather be safe than sorry. So now I just wait for the phone call. My poor guys has just been through so much. And I haven't been able to sleep or rest since this all happened in July because after that I had to find a house and then move and now I am living in the middle of a million boxes and can't find anything. I am EXHAUSTED and need a break.

And after this incident, I am done with daycare. Especially after the owner's attitude about Jax not listening to "leave it." I am livid. Now let's hope the owner of the other dog will pay the $300 vet bill for his stitches.

You did the right thing, not accepting that "he's okay" diagnoses! Praying that it was right, but having him seen further is a good thing. Praying for you and him.
The old saying "when it rains, it pours" came from times like you are having.Just got thru some myself. Hang in there Cbrugs :heartsign:

Oh my gosh, poor little guy!!!! How big was the dog that did that to his ear? He should have been with smaller dogs for sure. I know scuffles happen, but whoever is watching the dogs should know how to break things up faster and generally just prevent this sort of thing all together.

She was a bigger dog but not huge. I don't necessarily blame the daycare but definitely think things could have been handled differently.
