It's not good...
The BD vet called at 7:30AM. He got the blood test results. Daphne's kidneys are shutting down. I asked him how bad this was on a scale of 1 to 10. He said an 8.
He told us to immediately take her to the animal critical care hospital and that they were waiting for us and had her X-ray and blood work from him. It was the longest 20 minute drive of our lives.
So here's how it stands at the moment. The CC vet examines her and said her kidneys are really really large (not good). It could be congenital or she could have ingested some medication of ours (we had brought our medication lists) or it could be Leptospirosis. We live on conservation land where the raccoons and rabbits roam so this is a possibility.
"Signs of leptospirosis may include fever, shivering, muscle tenderness, reluctance to move, increased thirst, changes in the frequency or amount of urination, dehydration, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, lethargy, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes), or painful inflammation within the eyes."
If Daphne has congenital kidney disease then there is only one way this thing can go. Her kidneys will shut down and she will die.
After 24 hrs of IV to flush her kidneys and give her vitamins, tomorrow morning she will be taken by the Critical Care ambulance to another specialist who can do the ultrasound and other stuff.
So we only know bad news, including the $3000 deposit we gave the CC hospital and $600 we've already given the BD vet. I'm am so so sad. I guess we'll cross each bridge as we come to it. You know how much I love my girlie. She's my soul mate.
The CC texted me the photo below and said she was tolerating the IV well.
