Hi All!!

SOOOOOO...as many know, we have been a long road with Ellie's Potty manners.

She WAS doing great no accidents in the house for a couple except when I got home she had pee'd in her crate (is is fitted just for her-no extra room, she is still doing potty boot camp) - Wondering if this might have something to do with her "night" wandering....

Out of gut feelings mommy took a sample, and she has ANOTHER UTI (#4).....:hissy:

Doc prescribed Baytril (68mg - 10 days) and Rimadyl (75mg - 5 Days)

She already takes a probiotic, and urine acidifer daily, and is fed Orijen.

Medically cleared for urinary tract abnormalities - Had Ultrasound, and Xrays, and both her Vets agree that her external girls are ok, and have not suggested a vulvoplasty

So my million dollar question is, is there anything else more mommy and daddy can do to help her stay healthy?!?!

Thanks!!

Make sure there's no bladder or kidney stones, since diet will depend on what kind of stones. Usually if a dog has UTI and stones, they are struvite, and a good diet would be a raw dehydrated with high percentage of protein and low percentage of carbohydrates, eg any raw diet or a high protein dehydrated or freeze dried dog food like Vital Essentials Freeze Dried Dog food. Also, give a high quality doggie probiotic like Proviable DC or Herbsmith Microflora Plus or Vetriscience Mega Probiotic , or if you can't find those just give milk kefir or low fat plain greek probiotic yoghurt. Also, give d-mannose powder 1/2-1 teaspoonful daily mixed into 4 ounces water ( maybe with your dog food ). Make sure your dog drinks a LOT of water.

YES!! :) She has (2) of them done in the last year, by two different vets, one by her internal specialist, and the other her regular vet, both cultures came back negative

Thank you so much for your suggestions!! I will give some of them a try - I am Terrified of changing her food, she has NO allergies, tear stains, and is at great weight...

Ellie is prone to Struvite crystals, we had been battling them for sometime, and she has had mulitple xrays, standard and contrast, and a pnuemocycstograph, to make sure she did not have stones, and that all of her "plumbing" was anatomically correct.

She does take a Daily Probiotic - Fortiflora, and a Urine Acidifier to keep her PH balanced to help with her Crystals

NOOOOO!!!! Poor Ellie [emoji26] You know I of all people understand how frustrated you are!! Before we found out about Pippen's ectopic ureter, her vet said her vulva looked fine too but to try wiping her once a day with malacetic wipes. Obviously that didn't help since her issue was with her ureters. They did check Ellie's ureter right? Have they done a cystoscopy or vaginal canal exam? They checked these on Pippen while she was under during surgery and found some other slight abnormality in her vaginal wall. I forget exactly what it was and will have to ask again when we go back on Friday.

Hi Michelle!! :) based on all Ellie's Xray and Ultrasound Testing and has ability to "hold it" and doesnt "leak" when she sleeps at night, and during her time in her crate, at this point her internal specialist, she does not feel we need to do the Cystoscopy, and Ellie was doing GREAT till about 3 weeks ago, and weird things started happening, so I had a feeling, and took a sample and now another UTI.

We have an appointment with Ellie's Regular Vet tomorrow for another reason, but going to address this while we are there....I will mention maybe getting her girl canal looked at

Hi Helene!! Your sexy Ellie is 1.5yrs old, and she is on the Original formula

Ahhh yes she's like Nyala.

Orijen is great as you know. But if I were you, I did it with my Ms Muffet, start home cooking. It really worked. When she had uti, then crystal....comes n go so I had enough being told put her on RC...pfffft fat chance. HC took a good week and it went... put her back on Orijen came back. I know its NOT the orijen as i had my other pets on it. It's her system. Back to HC and stayed like that. Now on Honest Kitchen.

Dogs that are prone to uti, you end up having to put your dog on antibiotics for a good month if not more. That is so not normal. I dished out this article I kept and its so well said. Have a look.

Ugh!! I hope your vet has some other suggestions tomorrow. It is sooo frustrating just when you think you've got it figured out for it to start happening again. That's what kept happening with Pippen. We would start her on a new med and she would be great for a few weeks and then bam, back to square one.

We'll be praying for y'all! Keep us updated on what they say!!!

Oh jeez Melissa.......Ugggg so sorry for you and Ms. Ellie!!!!! You know I'm new at this too, I sure hope some of the more experienced members can offer suggestions. Would her UTI's be considered chronic now, even at her young age??

Good Morning Tracey, Willow, and Wally!! Hope you are doing well!!

I agree there is something going on...but not sure what

She JUST had one done on 19th of March when she saw her internal specialist, and she said it was negative for bacteria, and perfect otherwise.

Ellie has had Standard and Contrast Xrays, and an Ultrasound of her bladder, and Kidneys, to make sure they are normal, and so far so good, bladder is shaped normal, and kidneys are good with no blockage, they also checked for stones, and she also had none of those

Based on her ability to be able to "hold it" when she needs to, like when sleeping, and spending time in her crate, at this time, all 3 - YES three of her Vets agree that her Ureters (tubing from the Kidney's to the bladder) are ok as well.

The last and most invasive testing that we have not done yet, and all the Vets are holding off on is a Cystoscopy.
