Pebbles is 4 months old & we are wondering at what age to get her spayed?

The breeder stated at 6 months as my other dogs were also done at that time. the vet states after her first heat around 8 months.

I have another female shar pei & a male toy American Eskimo in the house.

I dont know if the age at which they are spayed has anything to do with aggression, but I would of course like to keep that at a minimum.

thanks

I had mine spayed at one year-they still hadn't come in heat. Many have them spayed at 6 to 8 months. Personally I think 6 mo. is too young-but also,I am not the Vet! I don't think it has to do with aggression in a female, but if she comes in heat, and your male is not fixed-HE will be if not aggressive,-Persistant!!

I am getting Pebbles spayed this week.

I have a specialist vet for bulldog stuff & a normal vet for common problems.

Is there something special with Bulldogs going under that I should take her to the bulldog specialist??

Most would agree that waiting until they are one year old is best. I have heard it stunts head growth if done sooner. Not sure if it's true or not though, best a conversation to have with your vet. My Brutus was fixed early at 5 months because he was having Cherry eye surgery and the vet did not want to put him under twice, and Frankie is a rescue who came fixed at 2yrs old and Jack Jack is also a rescue whom we got at 8 months old but will remain intact because of a heart condition that would put him at high risk if put under.

Effie was spayed at 6 months- she did great, no stunting of growth as far as we can tell. She's still a butterball at 70lbs. We think it was probably healthier for her to be spayed earlier. We got our new EB, Josie, at 18 months old. We are having her spayed next month. She's had 2 heat cycles (according to previous owner)- and she humps everything in sight LOL. Also, she has swollen nipples, which will never go down (according to my vet)- since she was allowed to go through a heat cycle. I'm no breeder (and there are far more qualified people on here to give advice), but if I were to ever have another puppy, I would not let them go through a heat cycle period.

As far as the spay surgery goes, use a bulldog specialist. EB's are highly susceptible to breathing problems & anesthesia can sometimes be dangerous for them. Better to be safe!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I cancelled spay with local vet & am scheduling with the Bulldog specialist.

So many opinions, its hard to know what is right & whats wrong.. All my dogs have been spayed at 6 month mark & have done fine although this is my first bullheaded bulldog.

Best decision made. Always 110% go with a bulldog specialist, this breed is very different from most. We learned the hard way. 2 surgeries for Tyson, the first with a non bulldog experienced vet - almost lost him. 2nd with bulldog vet, went home same day, zero issues. Seriously, best decision you could have made for her.
