My sweet little boy needs tail pocket surgery. It is just disgusting and is keeping him itching and twirling on his behind. He is miserable. I've tried a Gofundme page, but haven't had much luck. Does anyone know of any help I can get? I used to be able to afford all his care and had no problems, until my husband passed away 18 months ago. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. He is my whole life now and I can't stand to see him suffer. Giving him up is not an option!!!!!

I had to have it done with our Rocky.. one thing you could do is call around, i say this because i was going to take him out of town to a specialist because my vet did not want to do this.. she didn't like the risk because his was so bad and it is very close to the spine when they amputate it.. the specialist wanted close to 1,500.00 just to start with more for other things.. i called around and had it done for way less.. 350.00 price included having him fixed while he was under also of course i had to drive a little ways but it was still worth the travel for the expense. so don't just settle with one price.. also, some vets around here offer a payment plan.. you may ask about that.. hope all goes well for you..

Thank you. That gives me hope. I was told $1500 also and my vet doesn't want to do it either.

The quoted price of $1500 is about right for tail amputation. This procedure should be done by a specialist, IMO. The spine is nothing to play with and the tail is an extension of the spine. We recently had this done on one of our rescues...and have had it done may times before. It's about 10 days from surgery date to staple removal. Once it's done, tail pocket problems are no more. Try to find a Vet that will accept scheduled payments. Owning a Bulldog(or any kind of dog) on a limited budget can be stressful to the wallet and the noggin. Try to save a little $ every month for emergencies like this. GL!

Thank you for your input. I understand and before my husband passed I didn't have these money problems and could take care of my baby. And he would have had the best care possible as my husband adored him as much as I do. Life has a way of throwing you curve balls.

Anyone in central Florida know of a good vet for do bulldog tail amputation. I was going to take him to University of Florida animal hospital in hopes that they know what they are doing. No one in my area wants to attempt it. It's pretty darn tight tail.

Sorry you're having this difficulty :( can you do a payment plan? a lot of vets have some kind of credit you can apply for. Or use a credit card and pay off?

Our adult Marigold had a tail amputation but it was done by the Bulldog rescue before we got her. I know she was an expensive case for them.

I'm just reading up on all of this, but it makes me sad. Fingers crossed for you and Dozer. Maybe call the University of Florida and see what their payment plan options are? Or look into CareCredit.
