So my husband is home today and when we went to let the dogs out- he calls me and says that Lockjaw's cherry eye is out again!!!! UGH!!! The vet that did the surgery is out this week- won't be back until Monday, so I'll have to wait till then to talk to her about what to do next and when to do it.
Now I'm wondering if I should just have it removed?!? I don't want to put him through another surgery- not to mention more $- and it still may pop back out.
I'm so confused and frustrated right now.

Hey! She's actually out sick. They said she will hopefully be back on Wednesday.
Now my poor baby has been vomiting. I got home to vomit in his kennel - I just thought he may have gagged a little bc there wasn't much in his crate. Then he threw up his dinner - 3xs. Each time was a little less (I'm assuming emptying his stomach). Then threw up his water, I tried giving him a little rice and pumpkin and he's thrown that up just a few minutes ago.
I'll be staying home with him tomorrow to see how he does.
My poor guy. He's sleeping now. So fingers crossed this passes through him quickly. I can't really think of a reason why he'd be like this.

On Wednesday, tell that vet she's not allowed to be sick when it comes to Lockjaw. :) Being home tomorrow, im sure the little guy will feel better. Much easier to keep an eye out on them.

I know right!!! On the bright side- his cherry eye has been in more than its out. If it comes out- it's been going in on its own, or it stays in when I massage it.

Well he went all night without throwing up- I slept with him in the living room- lol. I gave him a very small hand full of rice about 2 hours ago and he drank some water about 40 mins ago and he's held that down. Meanwhile being very active and playing with Penny. I'm praying he just ate some grass or something and it passing through him.
Thank you to everyone for the prayers!

Wow, what a miserable day for LJ. I hope he continues to get better. Keep the water coming in small quantity...he needs to drink!

Awwwa....mommy slept with baby making sure all will be ok. That is so cute. Reminds me of when I did that with my own kids. I would do it today but I would be thrown out of their houses. Hahaha. Well Good Job CP! Yes good point above let the water come in small quantities. Glad the cherry eye is going in on it's own. That's a good sign too. Cherry eye stays in when you massage it, how long does it stay in before it comes back out? Just curious...

So far so good. He's holding everything down. He had 2 small portions of rice and has had water freely all morning. Praying that whatever was upsetting his belly has passed. Keeping him on bland today just in case. If he continues to do well, I'll add in a small amount of chicken and pumpkin later today.
It's in pretty much all of the time now. It comes out if he's chewing on a toy, or if him and Penny start "ruff" housing. Kinda making me question what I should do NOW?!?

But...you don't have to do anything now. This may take care of itself. The glands usually pop out when the blood pressure goes up. Keeping the bully calm will always help...and hopefully, it will eventually stay in.
If it does not, you have plenty of time to think about it and get opinions from forum members, friends, neighbors, Vets...and then take the approach that will work best for you and LJ. I'm confident that your decision will be the correct one.

Thank you! I have been thinking about just leaving it alone for a while. If it was staying out all of the time and I wasn't able to massage it back (as was the case before we decided to have it tacked) then I would definitely do something sooner rather than later. Hopefully I will be able to talk to the vet tomorrow and see what she says. If anything, maybe just hold off for a bit - but keep a repair in our back pocket if it does eventually just stay out. Things would be so much easier if they could just talk to us. Lol- these responsible decisions are stressful. Lol

Interesting. I would wait too. Maybe and this is wishful thinking to keep LJ calm and if...iiiiif it's possible for a week or so that cherry eye might just not come out anymore. Will be hard to keep him calm as you have 2 dogs. But heh, you just might avoid another surgery especially since he just had one not too long ago. See what happens and how everything goes. Take a bit of time to decide unless the vet has a better solution which im sure she will tell you. If it was me for Nyala after having same cherry eye issue and need to have it redone, I would wait just a bit by calming her down, see how long it takes for it to pop back out or/and hopefully not. Also she was already under asthenia not to long ago I would wait..... But heh, that's me. See what your vet says take it from there.

Update- so the vet called me earlier and said she would suggest a repair. If for whatever reason that repair failed, she would then send me to the eye specialist.
In my opinion- if I were to do the repair and that failed, I want it removed. I don't want to continue putting him through all of this.
She said it's not something that we have to do now. And if I wanted to wait it out to see how he does in the near future.
Lately it's been in more than its been out. And if it come out, it's easy to hit massage in. BUT- that's still been everyday.

Yup like 2BM said straight to the specialist see he/she says. I would jump the repair and go straight to the source. Take it from there.
