Hi, all: I received so many helpful tips the last time I asked a question (and i probably never replied to everyone saying Thank you. Please accept my much belated Thanks!
How does one locate the best English Bulldog vet? One of the girls came to us with so many issues :( and while I really like the vet clinic/hospital staff we are currently with, I'm thinking that a SME would be best. We've sunk a fortune into her (Whitney) already and it breaks my heart knowing she doesn't feel as good as her sister. The good thing is she is drinking and eating fine (it seems) and sleeps fine (it seems.) But I'm getting ready to purchase pet insurance (open to suggestions) and I want that insurance to be put to the BEST use!
Thank you ahead of time to all who can offer some guidance!:gloom:

Thank you for the help! Only one shows up for Minnesota, and it's more than 30 miles from our house. The issues we are having with Whitney just seem to us that they need more of an expert. We live in Anoka, MN.

30 miles sounds far, but sometimes, even if just one appointment, you might find it is more than worth the drive. I currently drive an hour one-way to get to our vet... I trust him with all my being and to me, the driving time is worth the peace of mind. Think about it.

I'll see if we have any members near you and tag them for you

porkchop, abbey, gucci and rocky,
I have never got any pet insurance only because I wasn't really sure it would be as cost effective with having 4 bulldogs because I know it was per dog and I have heard it only pays on certain things.. but I never really got that far into checking it out.. we love our vet but with any serious problems we do take ours out of town to a med vet that is a few hours drive but they have many specialist there... sorry, I know I'm not much on advice .. I did notice you have listed in your dogs names a princess Abigail... funny.. we have a abbey too and my husband calls her pricess... welcome, you will like this site.. I know I do and keep us posted

So glad that everything worked well for you. Bully vets are usually worth the extra effort. Our bully vet isn't close so I use our local vet (who I like a lot) for his routine injections or 'any breed' dog stuff like when he tore his toenail for example but anything else at all and he is off to the bully vet poste haste.

I also use my local vet for the "routine" things. But go to a vet office that specializes in EB's for all of their "bully" related stuff or surgery - that office is 1 1/2 hr one way. But well worth it! Took Penny for her spay and nares and will be taking Lockjaw for his Neuter, cherry eye tack and to widen his nares as well. If they are good at what they do, make you feel comfortable and take care of our babies - the distance is not bad at all.

Thank you everyone for all of your kindness and perspective. You are ALL right and the vet link from 2BullyMama did wonders. Whitney saw the new vet on Wed.for a horrible cherry eye. I had fixed all up until this one..it was a bugger. Dr. Jim fixed it and visited with me and answered my questions. The darn cherry came back before we got home! I was so exasperated. I won't bore you with the cool details (it was just unbelievable how they took care of us!) but Whitney had it fixed this morning. SO THANKFUL I found all of you. THANK YOU.

Hi there ---- here is a list of member recommended vets, might be one in your area. Also, tell us where you live and if nothing on the lists helps another member may be able to provide some suggestions.

I need to make a comment about one of the vets mentioned in Texas. The following:
Dr. Scot Sunbury
Sunbury Vet Clinic
12407 North Mopac Expressway , Ste. 400
Austin, TX 78758

I had thought about going to him for my bullies, because I had taken my cat there at one time for annual vaccinations. However, the breeder who I got one of my babies from gave me a stern warning not to use him. Either she or someone she knew, had worked for him, and he is apparently mean to dogs. I wouldn't chance it. For surgery, etc., I use Dr. Jim Young in San Antonio. He is known as the Bulldog vet.

That's great news! Sometimes going out the extra miles can make a big difference. My vet is not that close by with congested traffic turns my 30 min into an hour drive . People from all directions come to the vet where I bring Miss Porkchop.

I saw this thread and was going to recommend Inver Grove Heights as they are fantastic. By your Dr's name, I know you've already made it there. We live in Mpls and drive about that far to get therer but wouldn't change it. They are great there.
