Good luck with everything! My Bella has a limp that comes and goes. I'm curious, did they notice the torn ACL on Xray? Bella's vet said her Xrays look normal, but she's still limping sometimes, so I'm probably going to end up taking her to an ortho dr eventually.

No. He didn't do xrays. When he did the 'drawer test' on his back leg..it was super loose! They will do xrays right before surgery to confirm. They will also xray other knee because, originally, that was the one he was limping on. That knee didn't have much looseness to it though. He may end of having surgery to the other done eventually too! Ugh! Thankfully I have dog insurance on him so they will cover 90% of surgery!

My Maggie just had surgery for a torn cruciate ligament. She had the TPLO procedure. Very expensive.

Now, five weeks post surgery, she's moving around very well. But of course, I still have to significantly limit her physical activity for a couple more months - no running, jumping, playing hard with her sister, using stairs, etc. It's hard to keep her under control because her leg feels good now.

I'm sorry I just saw that I was tagged in this! My Effie originally fell onto our fireplace and immediately went lame in her back right leg. We rushed her to the Emergency Vet who diagnosed her with a torn ACL due to a positive drawer test. He gave us a referral to an Orthopedic Vet to discuss our options. The first thing the Ortho vet did was take X-rays. She told us that there was no indication of swelling or fluid on the knee which would be indicative of an ACL tear (since the tear itself can not be seen on x-ray). She found what looked like a small chip fracture on her growth plate in that leg. We ended up avoiding having to have any kind of surgery. Effie had her leg casted and was basically on cage rest for nearly 2 months. They were hoping that the injury would be able to heal without having to go in and place screws. Lucky for us and Effie that ended up being the case. She's now fully recovered and running around like crazy! You'd never have known that she was injured at all!

I would definitely suggest getting x-rays done prior to having any kind of surgery. From all the research I did, and advice I received when we were going through this....it could really be many different kinds of problems. The ER vet told us she had a positive drawer movement, but the Ortho vet found no such sign. Definitely see an ortho specialist (if you haven't), and definitely get those x-rays!!
Hope you're bully recovers quickly!! :)

oh poor bubba, sending good vibes his way !!! buddha had an acl tear last year. healing process was not fun at all we thought we could do without crating him and it just prolonged the healing process even more. he ended up getting a full cast on his leg and we ended up crating him after 2 months of not healing. the whole healing process took for us 4-5 months (yeah i know!!!!)my suggestion crate him even if hes not a happy pup. we learned the hard way !!

Big hugs to Bubba! Hopefully there's a way out of surgery, and if not, hopefully he goes through it without a problem.

My Angus has a partial ACL tear on his right hind leg. He loves to catch Frisbees and he started jumping up at it to snatch it out of the air. Well, sometimes, instead of going around my other bulldog, Bullie, he jumps right through her to get the Frisbee... doctor put him on a 6 week no running period with a leg brace and he was the most miserable dog on the planet.

Sorry I haven't gotten back with you! Yes I got them!! Thank you soo much! They loved the treats you sent also! I've decided to wait until after the holidays to get the surgery. He is not having pain but cant run much and if he tries to jump up on furniture his rear end sometimes collapses and he cant make it up without help. You are soo sweet for sending them! THANK YOU THANK YOU again!
