Hey guys, does anyone know if hydrangas are ok to have around our bulldog pups? My grandmother just passed and that was her favorite plant and I just got one for my patio to remember her and want to make sure it's ok to have considering my pup. He doesn't seem to be bothered by the plants or try to get into them but I hoping I can make it work cause it's pretty special to me. Thanks!

I can't say for sure but my pups have eaten pretty much every plant in my yard including a Hydrangea and they are both alive and well.

Yes, they are toxic to dogs. Try putting a fence or some small border around so he can't get to them. From ASPCA:

I have heard that they are poisonous to dogs, but I don't know how much they have to eat before it's toxic.

I'm sorry for your loss. I've also heard this. I don't think it's unreasonable to put it out of reach/in a closed area and see what attention your dog pays to it.

When Winslow was a puppy, he thought they were just lovely. :luv:

It is one of Monty's favourite plants in my garden to pee on! Don't think I need to worry about him eating it.....

So sorry for the loss of your Grandmother.

If you fence it in you should be fine. In most cases they pup will leave it alone, but curiousity can sometimes take the better of them -- I have my garden fenced off because my boy is also a garden mole (dig, dig, eat, dig)
