Last summer, Blue caught Bordetella. He made this crazy sound we thought was coughing.. but maybe it was reverse sneezing..?
Other than that, I don't think I've ever heard it..

it's definitely alarming but luckily harmless! I will usually rub franks chest and just let him get it out.

Strange thing... Banks very rarely did this, but Cheli does it constantly -- always wondered why

I think it is more common usually in smaller dogs.though any dog can do it. I had a Pom,toy poodles, that did it-especially in damper weather. Carlie does it(allergy)it and Lizzie does when it's rainy.A vet years ago told me that the term is
ciliary dyskinesis little hairlike things that sort of filter the air going into the lungs. She told me,with my Pom, who got it so much, to give her Childrens Benedryl Elixor, about 1cc. I guess it works the same as Benedryl. As long as allergy is the ONLY cause.

You take your finger and place it over the nostrils and keep it there as they will open up their mouth to breath. A vet showed me this years ago, she said to watch how Boo doesn't open her mouth up and of course it really was how she said it. Everytime Boo does this I just put my finger over her nostrils causing her to open her mouth and we are good to go.

There are loads of video's if you google it. I don't care if they do say it's harmless, it still scares me when one of mine does it!!

My Pug gets this very often, first time I freaked out:ashamed: but now I'm so used to it... I just pet her calmly and she usually stops within 15 seconds, feels like an hour though but she's always fine afterwards.

Gucci does this, I lift his cheeks up gently and calm him. It stops right away.

Yep Barkley does this occasionally and I just cover his nostrils for a couple seconds and he stops right away!
