I decided to go ahead and get Bella spayed. It's scheduled for this Thursday. I'm hearing so many different things about anesthesia and the things that can go wrong with short-nosed breeds. I'm really scared! I know my vet loves her, but I just want to make sure they know what to do for her.

What questions should I ask them? My friend told me that I shouldn't let them give her acepromazine. Is that something normally given during spay? I read something else that said it's OK to give, but that bullies should be watched carefully after it's given.

Please help me! I'm a crazy dog mom.

I would make sure your vet is comfortable with bullies. I asked my vet if he had fixed a bulldog before and he told me no so that was our last visit to that vet. We now go to a Bulldog specialist. They put Boris on a breathing machine while he was under to reduce chances of complications during the surgery. It was about 300-400 dollars more than the other vet, but I don't care cause I want him taken care of to the fullest. I've supplied a link below that was given to my by a local member of the Bulldog club in Minneapolis and St paul.

Isoflourane is the safest, ask to make sure they will use that. She will be fine if they know what they are doing. I do agree if you can get her into a bully specialists that would be great.

I don't really know anything about the drugs or anesthesia (I don't remember the name of the anesthesia, but I know it was one that can be immediately reversed if necessary). But I just wanted to say that Winnie was spayed when she was 7 months old and everything went smoothly. Probably everything will go well for Bella too, especially because I know your vet and the staff love her so much!

The only thing Winnie hated was the cone she was supposed to wear for 2 weeks after the surgery. We took the cone off when we came home. Really, we never needed it. I watched her closely and she never even tried to bother her incision. Can bully girls even reach their incisions?!

Anyway, sending positive thoughts to you and sweet Bella!

Thanks everyone! I do feel better after seeing the list of drugs they'll use. They mentioned something about being able to reverse the drugs, too, Donna. I know everything will be fine... I guess I had a moment of panic. I'll be glad when this is over...sheesh!

Bella cannot reach her girlie parts, so I will not make her wear the cone. :) My biggest issue will be keeping her from going all puppy zoomie on me.

I have had many, many females spayed and never ever had a problem at all. Drugs all sound good, and all should be fine!
