So were going on holiday in june and were thinking about putting glen in a kennel for a week.

I am really nervous and worried about leaving him alone as he needs constant attention and love. And how can i trust people with one of my kids!.
I hate the thought of him staring out at nothing thinking weve abandoned him.. Will he hate me when we come back?!.

Might just cancel the holiday lol

Oh how we have all been there.... is there a neighbor, friend or family member you can trust him to stay with or they stay at your home with him?

I agree with Christine. Have a family member or close friend watch him if possible. If not then keep throwing questions that the kennel(s) you are looking at until you are comfortable with them.

I agree with Christine and Todd, if some one in the family, or someone you trust could stay at your house and house sit and watch Glen, that would be ideal. If not there are many good kennels and good people out there, you just have to do your research and check out the facility and ask the right questions. When we went to Jamaica last year I had the same concerns, and I visited a couple of kennel places, but didn't like what I saw. A friend recommended the boarding at Petssmart, and I went in and talked to the staff, took a tour of where they boarded them, and asked a lot of questions. I already knew the staff from the grooming, and I liked the cleanliness of the dog rooms, and I liked the fact that they're not kept in crates or cages. They actually have a suite to stay in. They also have web cams so you can see your pet, and you can call anytime to check on them. I was really impressed with the facilities and how they were taken care of. They were really spoiled. Another option is to see if your vets office has boarding facilities, some do. I wouldn't cancel my trip, we need to get away too, and relax, and we do worry about our babies, but there are good options and good boarding places, you just have to do your homework.

I know some of the techs in my vets office will stay at your home. There's also a list of vet techs at
the animal hospital we use that do it too.

Is something like that possible?

Great idea… my pet sitter was a vet tech for years and now she watches dogs in her home. You have plenty of time to check different options…

If you decide to use a kennel, be sure they are knowledgeable about Bulldogs and their needs. We occasionally have my mother stay with Mabel, but our vet's office also boards. He is a bulldog specialist, so I never have any concerns about leaving her there.

We have a friend who dog sits with our dogs when we leave town, which isn't often. I can't tell where you live, but we have a great facility called Pappy's Pet Lodge. If our friend ever couldn't babysit, I would trust them. I know it's a franchise--we have several locations around Dallas. I don't know if there are any where you live. I have taken my dogs there before and they are wonderful! They also have the webcam so you can see your baby anytime.

We get a pet sitter when we are gone and can't take them with us, and sometimes get a pet/house sitter to stay with them. We will not use a kennel unless there is just no other way. Too many horror stories, especially in the summer. Kennels have kids working there that don't understand bulldogs and heat.

VEGAS and REBEL
I used a kennel once, and that was one to many. I personally did not have a good experience with Vegas. Then I thought  I work with so many young responsible girls I hired one. Turns out she loves Vegas and he loves her. She either stays at my house or comes to my house 4 times a day. I pay her extra well (more than the kennel) but I have piece of mind and can enjoy our get-a-ways knowing Vegas is in excellent hands. I would try finding a friend, family to come to your home. You have plenty of time. I had Stephanie come to my house twice to hang out with Vegas before we actually left.

I tried the twice per day home visits for one of our girls years ago. Leiah was so upset she just peed and pooped all over the house. The poor sitter was beside herself. She hadn't signed up for carpet cleaning duty. We left another of our girls with family which worked great. We leave Charley at a kennel, but I worry the entire time that he will get in a fight with a dog that doesn't like him. I think next time, I will get a full time house/dog sitter, if I can afford it!

Try Rover.com. Went out of town this New Year for a week and had to leave my Jake with somebody I found through Rover. The sitter watch my baby at his house. The sitter took my Jake to dog park everyday, exercise him by walking, made him sleep on his bed, play, etc. I got pictures and videos everyday and ,pet me updated on his activities. You should try it.
