Bad breath - what to do about it?

Walley-Bubba has developed bad breath.
The vet had prescribed some rawhide chew strips which helped.
But if unsupervised, WB soaks them in his water bowl and then swallows them whole and sometimes brings them back up.
I worry he will choke himself to death so I stopped giving them to him.
Anyway, this all defeats the purpose of the chew stripts- chewing them to clean his teeth.

We are looking for a better alternative.
Anyone here have any suggestions?
Thanks.

Rawhide is a big no-no for Bulldogs so stay away from them was a good decision.

Bad breath is usually from the food or a bad tooth.... what are you currently feeding and did the vet check for a broken tooth?

Thanks Christine.
Teeth are fine, no problems except a little plaque which is why the medicated chews were prescribed.
We've been feeding him Taste of the Wild Buffalo and Venison for about a year now.
He seems less anxious to gobble it down in 2 seconds lately.
He almost seems bored with it.
His breath does smell a little like the TOTW Buffalo and Venison food.
So maybe a different flavor TOTW may help.
His food is always fresh since it doesn't last long.
I think we will try a different TOTW flavor and see if anything changes.
May even go back to Fromm if new TOTW flavors don't help.
Also, feeding him 1-cup twice a day may bee too much - it's all loose skin but with little exercise he may be gaining weight...so maybe a cut there also.
Small steps...

When I had Banks on the Fromm Lamb/Lentil her breath was 'kicking' along with very red eyes and lots of tearing. I placed on back on Pork and Peas and all that went away... so it very well could just be the flavor/protein of the food.

Thanks again, Christine. I'll try a different flavor TOTW and see what happens. WB will be 2 years old in a couple of days.
This is so exciting :)

Bad breath problem solved.
It seems to have gone away on it's own.
Same food. Same everything.
Maybe he ate something bad outside - we have persimmons that were rotting on the tree and falling to the ground.
Or maybe I was not as rigorous as usual about cleaning his ceramic feeding bowl EVERY time he feeds.
Anyway, he's back to his normal, onery self..which is just fine by me :)
