I hear you....But yet meat producers have fed growth-promoting antibiotics to food animals for years....

Thanks for that! I have been looking for something from the FDA about it. Unfortunately, all it says though is that they have not tested the product for the purpose of removing tear stains so it can't be approved for that purpose until they have. It does not talk of any adverse affects that have been reported, and as @RiiSi said, its already in the meat we eat.

Incidentally, the Ivomec that all veterinarians issue for oral or subcutaneous use to cure a demodex mange infestation in dogs has also not been FDA approved for use on dogs or cats. It is approved only for cattle and swine only. Vets have been using Ivomec as an off-lable medication to treat demodex for years as it is the only thing that works once the mites have generalized. The label on the product itself even says not to use it on dogs or cats. If the makers of Ivomec suddenly labeled it for use in dogs and cats, the FDA would issue a similar warning.

Just wanted to put this perspective out there as well so people don't freak out about giving their dogs tysoline tartrate until there is actual evidence that it harms them.

^^^^Great points! IMHO the FDA is just one more bully federal agency, out to put as much money in their pockets and are generally not for the best interest of the public or our animals. If any company wants their product on the market, all that has to be done is pay $2 million for "research" to the FDA and NOT take money away from products that our gov and politicians invest in. Sorry. Im opinionated and hold long time grudge against that particular group.
