Hello all- duke and duchess went in for their annuals and they both got clean bills of health. Duchess is 27 months and 49lb duke is about 16 months and 53LB. However their regular vet who was a "bully specialist" retired in January. I specifically asked for whoever took over his bully patients. Well the lady was really nice but definately not as knowledgable in the breed and their old vet. This was disappointing because duchess I wanted duchess screened for potential breeding but decided against going through with the X-rays I imtily planned simply because I wasn't comfortable with the vet. So now I must find a new bully specialist and once I find one I'm comfortable with I will continue the the screening process for potentially breeding her. Once duke is 2 I will do the same for him to potentially use at stud. She did say that they are both extremely healthy and fit. She did mention that she thought they both might have slight envirental allergies. But not to worry unless it becomes an issue- and if it becomes an issue to try Zyrtec as Benedryl makes them sleep. Btw what is the recommended dosage for Zyrtec?

I feel ya. I am on the hunt for a new vet as well. It's not as easy as I had hoped. I hope you have better luck!!

Glad to hear they are both doing so well.... good luck on the vet search too.

As for the Zyrtec... Ithink it is one pill a day. Can't remember who uses it, but maybe Ellie knows the dose Blueberrys Mom

For a 55-60lb bullie it's one 10mg tab per day. I heard you can give up to 20mg per day but I never tried it and I wouldn't without a vet's approval.

Patton is currently on Zyrtec for unknown allergies (at this time) he sees a specialist while we figure out what exactly it is and her recommendation was 1 pill a day (equal to 10mg). He's 5 months and ~35 pounds. He's been on it for about 2 weeks now and I haven't seen the pills impact him negatively. (I also don't think they're helping as much as she said they would but that's a different thread). Hope that helps.

Not sure on the Zyrtec dosage, but I see you are from Chicago. Was it dr shaw you were seeing? That's who we went to as well until he retired. His parter dr govic was very nice, but we are going to switch to dr navin at all pets hospital. Him and dr shaw are the two top docs in the Chicago area for bullies. Hope that helps if you are looking for another doctor.
