So recently put Hercules on a diet. I realized he's losing that tiny waist and I don't want him to pack on the pounds and he hasn't been pooping as much. I have him on rice and chicken broth. Any other suggestions?

sorry no advice here ^^. just want to wish you luck. i know it no fun putting them on diets. I heard adding green beans to their food would make them feel full but won't take on calories :). best of luck to you and your guy!

I would give him more veggies than rice. Rice is a lot of calories and carbs and dogs don't need a lot of extra carbs. I do give my boys rice however but maybe a "spoonful" and the rest are lots of veggies plus meat. It's hard though b/c i give them too many snacks thru the day which makes losing wt. a challenge.

I think just avoid the high doses of carbs and the weight will drop no problem. Rice is pretty carb-y but probably fine. I feed Baxter a meat/veggie mixture and have to *add* carbs to it, to keep him from getting too skinny. So meat/veggies would probably be a more substantial method without starving him :)

Are you feeding a kibble or home cooked food?

if kibble just cut the amount of kibble in half and substitute with green beans until at desired weight, then watch what your feed after to maintain

I would just cut back on his kibble a little bit and he will loose the weight.

You can also give him green beans to help fill him up a little, and they do not add any weight on them.
