My fathers past poodle mix had a very similar issue. He would break out within time with very similar looking sores. Some would even ooze! I cannot recall what treatment they did, which worked. I do recall that it was related to some type of skin mite. The meds were injections. I'll try to see if my father recalls the med name when I visit this weekend.

Freezing kills mites, cooking kills mites and you don't store the food after thawing or cooking. So you can at least limit the amount that goes strait in to his digestive system.

Even though my insurance would not cover an Rx written out for a dog and I had to pay out of pocket, it was still way cheaper than at the vet or even 1800 petmeds.
Atopica is actually a drug called cyclosporin for humans. It can be prescribed for people with the dose then cut into doggie size. I wonder if your vet would be willing to do that with the new drug. I know how expensive this stuff is. We have already spent $2000 on Lola's allergies and we have only had her for 5 months.
Yea, we've had to have quite a few different prescriptions for Bodie filled at our local pharmacies.
We actually had to have the vet call it in to the pharmacy once because the shipment was list in the mail and I didn't want the drug to completely leave his system. It was actually more expensive than what I paid for it from the vet! However, I did get them to price match. But either way, it didn't work for Bodie. I actually still have 29 of the "human" form and a few of the Atopica left in my freezer...a lot of good they're doing!! I'm not sure what the name of the new drug that's been approved is?

I don't understand why so many medications are so expensive? Extremely ridiculous!! I wish the Atopica would've worked for Bodie, trust me, we would've continued to find a way to pay the $150 a month for him to be better!! He just didn't respond to it....u said u pay $55 monthly? What milligram is that? We searched high and low to find it at a lower cost and the $68/box from our vet was the cheapest! And there's only 15 pills per box, so we had to buy 2 boxes per month. Even the human form was more expensive!

I found it! It's called Apoquel. My vet (not dermatologist) was raving about it, saying that it beat Atopica in tests. He had just returned from a conference on it. The dermatologist just told me that she would not consider it for Lola until she was at least a year old. Here is a link about it:
