HI All!

We brought Ellie home two weeks ago and she is adjusting nicely. Finally being a dog and a 7mo puppy. I noticed on Friday that her face seemed pinker than normal. Well she loves to be outside and this is the only time in Texas she can spend time outside so I thought maybe some sunburn. Well today when I was outside playing with her in the morning and starting our wrinkle routine I noticed that she has several spots on the chin and face that resemble human pimples or whiteheads, like a little zit with yellow head. I googled and read about acne and allergies. How do I honestly know if they are acne vs allergy? What do you all treat with? Also she does have half of a white face and we have tear staining as well. I clean her nose rope daily as its very deep and gets yucky. The wrinkles under her eyes arent so bad, but the area with the tears tends to stay damp and has a slight odor but her saliva does as well. Like when she licks or slobers on me my skin retains the odor :blush2:. I do want to switch her food as she is on Pro Plan now.

I appreciate the feedback!!

:welcome4:Hi Amanda, welcome to you and Ellie to EBN. Pink face and acne can be symptoms of food allergies. If you haven't already, you should read the pet food ratings on the home forum. It lists all the pet foods and rates them from 1 Star to 6 Star. You want to choose a 4 Star or higher brand of dog food. Examples of these foods brands are Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Orijen, and Fromm's. Pro Plan unfortunately is not rated as a good food. A lot of EB are allergic or sensitive to chicken, and sometimes salmon, and grains, or corn, so if your present food contains these ingredients they could be causing his symptoms.

Welcome to the site, and I think the problem is her food as Pro Plan is not a good food for bullies. First I would get a higher grade food. Check the ingredients and if it has "corn" in it, put it back on the shelf. Here is the food rating article here. Check it out and I would choose from there. I would stick with a 6 or 5 star rating food. Young pups will had acne, just keep it clean and dry and they will eventually go away. Plus use Stainless Steel bowls for food and water, not plastic. Get some "Mal a Kat" wipes for the deep wrinkles when they have a smell. Once they clear up use which hazel to clean ,as it is self drying, but I would not use it everyday as it can start to irritate the skin. I hope this helps.

Bodie
Hi Amanda! I've recently switched my Bulldog, Bodie to Merrick food. It's grain free, no fillers or by-products, and most importantly, NO GLUTEN! Like humans, dogs can have gluten allergies too. Recent studies and research have shown that gluten is not good for dogs, especially breeds with possible health issues, i.e. Bulldogs!! Taste of the Wild is another great food brand with these same qualities. However, Bodie wouldn't eat the TOW, I guess the smell wasn't very appealing to him:( As far as the tear stains go, Bodie also had bad smelling, brown stains on his "one-sided" white face. At the time we were seeing a specialist doggy dermatologist and he was put on a huge regimen, so it's hard to say which thing contributed to his stains disappearing, but the Mal-A-Ket wipes are very good and there's a powder called Neo-Predef that is good too. I hope some/any of this info helps. Good Luck!!:)

Agree with the others, food is the issue, ProPlan (anything Purina) is really not a good food at all. Getting the right food will clear up a lot of your issue..... As for the acne keep the chin dry and stainless bowls -- all as others have just , I just wanted to support their statements..... Food is key with these sensitive Bullies.
