Radar is 5 months old almost 100% potty trained uses his bells like a pro. He rings them all the time to go outside he will pee a little each time but wants a snack aka blueberries more then anything he gets 3/4 cup of food and some veggies with supper a whole cup maybe more each meal so not sure if he is still hungry or has just figured out that bells and outside equals snacks. Any advice or thoughts would be fantastic

He is training you!?

he has associated getting the treat for being outside.... Try to mix it up with just praise and no treat see how he does

Buster does this to us constantly. We think its just to get treats so we stopped when he wouldn't go, he'll get the idea soon enough.

Radar is a very smart pup! I struggle with this too but just remember that rewards can also be in the form of affection/praise like Christine mentioned, or playing with him, etc…
I know sometimes i wonder if i'm feeding my boys enough or not b/c they're always ready for a snack…but then when i see that one of them weighs 70lbs i snap back into reality and realize that i am (and then some)!

Ah, the go-outside-multiple-times-and-not-do-anything-but-get-a-treat-regardless-trick ... my Stiggy used to do that. He gave it up after I gave up giving him treats when he doesn't do his business.

And yes, they do get more adorable as they older!

Great advice given -start giving treats only when hes doing his "buisness" then after a while start to reduce treats and slowly replace it with praise

I agree with everyone, great advice, so nothing to add, other than Radar is super cute and smart. How do you teach them to use the bells to go out? My friends Havanese dog does this too, it's so cool and cute.

We hung them by the door and made him ring them then of course had a snack just outside the door so he had to get outside to get his reward a few days and he had them figured out we took the snack away outside the door and just get excited when he rings them and go out. I will replace snacks with praise and hopefully he won't eing them quite so often

One thing -when given treats adjust his food intake accordingly ;-) -you don't want a chubby bully that need to go on the diet ;-)

Awwhahah Bulldogs, they are so clever when they really want something:lmao: Maybe just give him a treat sometimes? and only if he really does his thing:) I don't remember using treats training mine to potty... I think we just praised them LOTS and LOTS and they loved the attention:tongue: He sure is adorable:heart:
