Could it be possible that Brutus is allergic to the Christmas tree? I have noticed that since we put it up his eyes have been red and watery and he is acting grouchy. I also noticed that he is scratching now. He has never scratched before. Should I just give him benedryl until the tree is down? I really think he is miserable.

I would try one and see if it helps. Maybe if you could keep him away from it and see if it makes a difference. Poor guy.

I bet you that is it, Vegas's allergies are 90% environmental. You can give 1 Benadryl per 25 lbs. Vegas is 57 lbs, so he can have two twice a day. I hope this helps and next year might have to do an artificial.

It's possible Rosalie, I absolutely LOVE real trees but I finally broke down a couple of years ago and got an artificial tree… made a HUGE difference! FYI Winston's eye specialist has put him on Zyrtec for his eye allergies, because she said that Zyrtec seems to work better for eyes then benadryl. I would wait till after Christmas to purchase an artificial tree to get it on sale… LOL

I would keep him away but my house isn't huge so the tree is in the the living room and this is where we are 95% if the time. If it gets bad I'll just get rid of it. I can't have him suffering.

Hope Brutus feels better soon xx

Zyrtec is what I take. You give him one pill? I wonder if I should try it. I am going to wait until after christmas and get a nice one on sale. I really have been wanting to get an artificial one for a couple of years anyway. I am over the mess. This the is perfect reason to get one. Everyone know not to argue with me when it concerns Brutus.

I do Rosalie, and I have noticed his eyes aren't as red. I have to admit, the artificial trees are so much easier to deal with… LOL

I gave him one zyrtec when I got home so I hope it helps him. Did it make Winston sleepy at first? I guess that wouldn't be a bad thing anyway :w00t:
