I was wondering if anyone has had nasal surgery done on their English bull dog. We have a new vet in our office who is being very pushy about having it done. I'm worried about having it done. I don't like the idea of having her under anastesia if it isn't necessary. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Is she having problems breathing? I would get another opinion by a good bully vet.

As David said -- does she have issue breathing, get out of breath real fast, or pant quickly when on short walks? Sleep apnea? If you think there is no issue, go get a second opinon to make sure either way.

I had to have this done for two of my bullies.... they both had issues breathing and very bad apnea.

I don't have experience with this, but if your vet is not a bullie specialist, or very bulldog knowledgeable, I would certainly want to get a second opinion!

I had it done for my Daisy based on recommendation from my vet (who does have lots of bully experience). She said studies have shown that if they have the nasal surgery (nares), they are less likely to have elongated palate issues. I probably wouldn't have volunteered to do it just to do it unless she was having breathing issues. The vet did her nares while she was being spayed so she was under anesthesia anyway.

When raven was a pup the vet thought it might be necessary. He did say to wait until she was being spayed so it could be done at once. Fortunately her nares widened up as she grew so we ended up not needing it. I third the suggestion to get a good bully vet.
