Why do rescues take so long?

As I posted a month (or two?) ago it seems like time to get Chunky a Smooshie-Face sibling, well we've applied to several bulldog rescues in our area and have not heard from any of them... the anticipation is crazy!!! Why don't they just call and get the ball rolling?!? I already have 1 bully, that should help me out, and he's great, well trained, super sweet, well socialized.... he just seems a bit lonely when he has a doggy buddy over for a couple days and then is all alone. I have talked my hubby into adopting but shoot will they EVER CALL? Just wanted to get that off my chest!

i hear that the waiting process can be frustrating and some people go on to purchase a puppy but please please be patient!! your rescue bully will thank you forever for the what seems like an endless wait now :)

Have you tried contacting them to touch base? See if there was something on your application that was a "no go"? I know how frustrating it can be especially when you are waiting so long. I would think they would at least call you if you were not approved, at least. So hopefully that is a good sign?

I think sometimes they post that it would take at least 72 hours for someone to get a hold of you. But if you've waiting for a while, say a week or so, I would email them and see what the status of your app is. Even try their facebook page.

as a volunteer for Detroit Bulldog Rescue and foster mom, from our experience we get a lot of applications and there are only 2 - 3 people to go through hundreds of apps so that is the reason for the delays. There are way more apps coming in then there are volunteers for the rescue to go through them, check references, set up interviews, home check, etc. Then even when you do get all those things done you may still have a wait for a rescue dog depending on what your circumstances are. For example some dogs cannot be placed with children under 8, no cats or other dogs, need to be supervised or have someone home with them 90% of the time. And again, there are way more people waiting for dogs then there are dogs in foster care.

With all that being said contact the rescue you applied to, either by phone or email, and above all be patient.

I was thinking along the lines of what kim n the guys said too. Most rescues work off volunteers (I love volunteers, where would we be without people stepping up to do good work :)). Most of which have full time jobs and families of their own. I do know most of them try to work as fast as they can but sometimes it isn't just a lack of their hours. Sometimes they have to wait to hear back from references too.

The waiting is the hardest part but the reward is amazing! Good luck with the pup you have applied for :)

thanks yall, it's been well over a week, i will try to give them calls this week. I know these are done by volunteers, I just figured by now someone would have called to me know that my app has been seen, and all that! with no kids, no cats, one bulldog, and i work from home I thought we are good candidates!

I understand your frustration, Alison. It's not just being short of volunteers, it's
more stringent standards to meet, there needs to be a happy medium to place
pets needing a good home with people that have good homes wanting to rescue.
I gave up and have adopted 2 bullies now (different times, Brutus has died now,
Cami here 6 months) from owner rehomes. Of course, I wanted a bully needing a
home and did, twice but my heart was to give a rescue bully a home. Hoping you
get your bully~GOD bless your effort & you!
