Not sure if I have good news or bad news. The most important good news is that he is HOME! he had a severe episode of head shaking while at the vet, so she witnessed it first-hand. She feels he was alert and oriented through the episode, but was unable to re-direct him out of it, as you can with IHT. She really believes his vomiting and lethargy yesterday are unrelated to the head tremors. Blood work at her office was inconclusive except for mild anemia. So, she is suspecting a portalsystemic shunt- a birth defect that does not allow the liver to filter the toxins from the body. It can cause, GASTRIC distress, especially if fed a high protein diet! This sure would make sense with all the " good dog foods" I've tried that are high in protein and all the gastric issues he has had since I got him at 8 weeeks!! it also makes sense that his symptoms resolved when put on the low protein diet! It can also lead to seizures, stunted growth and a host of other things. The labs take 48-72 hours to get back and if they are normal, we'll be seeing a neurologist. So, he has some things going on, but we have no specific diagnosis yet. I am just happy to have him home. I will keep you posted, and thank you so much for all the prayers and well-wishes!!
