Default Does your bullie Fetch, or do you???

Ever since Blue was a wee pup, he loved running after balls.

At home, I'll throw it, he'll get it, then he'll run back, but instead of dropping it so I can throw it again, he'll drop it in front of me and guard it. Waiting for me to tackle the ball from him. It's pretty funny actually.

When we started going to the dog park, his version of fetch, turned into "guard the ball". Meaning, I throw it, he runs after it, then he stands over it and guards it. He waits for me to walk over, then tries to keep me from taking the ball. Once I manage to get it out of his grubby little paws, I throw it again and the fun starts all over. In other words, I'm the one fetching, not him!

Does anyone's bullie do the same thing?? Guard the ball instead of returning it?

Well sort of, we throw the ball or toy, they run after it, then they stay there chewing and gnawing the ball or toy, and they wrestle with it, with each other. They never bring the toys back. Lol

This is exactly what Gunny does. I have been working on it for over a week. It would be nice to play fetch the "normal" way.

If I try to get Maggie to play with anything she looks at me like I'm an idiot. She literally couldn't care less about toys. Of any kind.

More like keep away. We will toss a ball or something and Harlea will go get it. As soon as we go to get it from her she takes off running in the opposite direction.

Brutus did the same thing. We have trained him to drop it and sit down and wait for us to throw it again. Don't be to impressed though because as I am typing this praise of him, he is chewing his toy box to bits. SMH

Too funny, Gio does the exact same thing! He always guards it and when I eventually do get it from him he jumps up at me trying to get it back! I look like a fool in my yard walking back and forth throwing the ball pretty much to myself lol

Exactly what Buster does! I can never figure it out, he loves to chase it down but then I have to go over and wrestle it away from him. I thought I would be smart when he was younger and bought the big .99 balls at Walmart and had them all over the backyard but his chin broke out and the vet said it wasn't good to have his chin rubbing around on the plastic balls that way. We still play with the football but man, his arm strength is INCREDIBLE! For such squat dogs they are VERRRRY very strong!
