I dnt know if some one can help us our 15 week old puppy started having this kind of relfex where her while body goes in and out and then she kind of gags and the. Swallows it has been getting worse where it is almost constant when she is up. We take her to the vet and after x rays they said it could be a slight case of pneumonia. Although she only breaths through her nose she isnt gasping for air through her mouth. Ahe has been o. 2 different antibiotics and something called hydroxyzine which completely knocks her out for hours we r at out wits end we want her to be better she is still eating. And normally does run around a little if mot on that medicine this has been going on for over 2 weeks anyone have any input we r so upset

How often is it, is it all the time? Does she throw up at all? The sound you described sounds like when Lola has to puke, usually because she has too much mucous after playing too hard or drinks too much water. She'll make a gagging noise; stick her tongue out and puke.

Can your vet refer you to a specialist? I don't like hearing it 'could' be pneumonia. She might need stronger antibiotics. I wonder also if her soft palate is causing her to gay at all. Does the whole body thing happen just randomly or after play or any kind if excitement?

Harleqiun Does she act normal after she has those episodes? It almost sounds like she is "reverse sneezing", although it looks and sounds scary, it actually is not harmful. The first time Gio did it I freaked out and after lots of research trying to figure out what it was I found out it was reverse sneezing. Google it and look at some vids on YouTube, if that's all it is then medication is not necessary! Good luck and please keep us posted!!

I'm with Lisa, this doesn't sound right, has she done this IN FRONT OF the vet?

Are they BULLY vets? You might want to get a 2nd opinion, let us know, 2 weeks
is a long time with no change after meds given. Others w/more experience and
knowledge will be along to help, I've never had a bully puppy...but this sounds
like a problem going on either undiagnosed and/or not properly treated i.e. needs
different meds to clear up completely.

Because of the young age & antibiotics already given, I'd give a dollop of plain,
unsweetened yogurt or kefir on top of food 1 x daily to bolster effects from antibiotics.
This will strength immune system & restore healthy gut balance. Try adding 1/2 teasp
of ACV (apple cider vinegar) to drinking water (stainless steel bowls). You want ACV
with 'the mother', can be found at Walmarts, etc. This will restore proper PH as well
as kill internal parasites, repel fleas, help w/digestion, etc

Let us know, GOD bless y'all, will pray for y'all.

Brie did something similar when she was 8 weeks. The vet said she sounded clear took X-rays, didn't see anything but gave her an antibiotic just in case...she continued to do the gagging and weird inverted like coughing of some sort. a cpl days after the vet appt, she had some respiratory shaking..her body would literally shake. I took her to a specialist that did X-rays and really checked her out. Turns out She did have pneumonia as well as bacteria in her trachea. She ended up needing 3 weeks worth of stronger meds but it finally all cleared up. Brie also ended up needing her soft palate resection as it was a little too wide n long which contributed to some of her gagging. Your bully could just have a build up if mucus getting in her way but if you can find a specialist just to be sure, it will be worth it if she continues w what she is doing. Hope she gets better very soon! Please keep us up to date!
