MAGGIE KEEPS EATING MY SOCKS! She's always thrown them up afterwards but today she pooped one out! I'm terrified she won't be so lucky in the future! She eats them when I'm asleep! And today i caught her trying to eat one of my sister's socks! Does anyone else have problems with your bully eating your clothes?

Either through their bums or with a surgeons knife you never know. A sock could easily get lodged in a bullies stomach and not come out the other end. I guess you will have to sleep with your socks under your pillow so Maggie can't get them.

Yes they will eat anything. I am hoping Fergus will grow out of it but it sounds like he wont be :nope:. I am always sticking my fingers in his mouth and pulling out things he shouldnt eat such as sticks, pebbles, leaves, bugs only thing he wont eat is :poo:. Thank goodness for that one. If I were you I would make the extra effort to make sure all socks are out of reach at all times better then pull the sock out of his butt or god forbid an emergency trip to the vet.

The problem is I don't always know when she's eaten something. What signs should I look for if she can't pass the sock?

Ok, sooo, yes Harley loves socks, loves them and balls..OMG! So i wil share with u my story...I rescued a bulldog that ended up dying after surgery (She went septic) she had ingested a piece of rubber, she was 4 when she died. I have a new bulldog now Harley...He swallowed his favorite ball right in front of me, he was 13 months old...we took him to emergency specialist right away, he had the surgery, but first we had to listen to all the worst case scenerios...he might not make through surgery..if he does make it, post-op will be touch and go...meaning he might not live after surgery, its possible he could go septic..then we were told once we get him home, we would be given a list of things to be aware of like...not letting him jump, not letting him get cold or be near a draft, because after surgeries bull dogs ca get pneumonia! I was traumatized and sick after hearing all this! Harley made it through amazing!!!!! He had so much energy once we got him home, we had to stay with him and be very cautious!!!! Heres the rule no matter how bad we want to please our dogs... balls have to be as big as there heads, might not be appealing but too bad!!! no material toys or socks only Nylabones and Kong. They will adjust, i promise. Oh yeah no dollar store toys! The surgeries are 3,000 dollars. Good luck and be safe, it's for there own good! :)

Best thing to do is keep them out of her reach, they will eat just about anything.

Signs of a blockage can include not passing gas, not pooping, abdominal pain, not eating or drinking, vomiting, diarrhea. With in hours the bowel can start dying if the blood supply is cut off. The tube that carries food to the stomach is larger than the outlet of the stomach so the outlet of the stomach can get blocked. Sharp objects can puncture holes in the walls of the intestines.

Bully owners have to be proactive and get down at their dogs level and see what the dog sees. A penny on the floor can cause zinc toxicity in the dogs stomach. The string hanging off the sofa looks inviting to play with but knots up with food in the stomach.

Bullies will eat everything because they can.

Yep just went through a surgery for a blockage. Not cheap and made her so sick, she was throwing up what looked like geen poop and was displaying symptoms of allergies when she had never sneezed in her life.

Best thing to do is keep the socks and anything else she can swallow put up or in the hamper.

Hi, I feel your pain and concern. Lol. It's very normal bully behaviour, so I've been told. I also have a sock monster, my male Bulldozer has eaten socks 3 times, twice vomited them up, and once passed it in his poop, the one he pooped out was my 5 year old grandsons sock, so it passed through his intestines a d into his colon and he was able to poop it out, but he did get quite sick, and it cost me almost 5 hundred dollars for X-rays, laxatives, IV fluids, pain medication, and fibre food, for him to pass it. The vet thought we were going to need surgery, due to the obstruction, but he was able to pass it. I don't know where he gets or finds the socks, I think it's on my hubby's watch, because I'm very careful to puppy proof the house, and I watch my guys when they are out playing, but he is so quick and when you try to take stuff out of his mouth he swallows it even faster and runs away so you can't take it away. He also swallowed a dish cloth, paper towel, rocks, pinecones, anything really that isn't nailed down, I swear he's a bully goat. I don't understand how they can swallow these items and not choke on it, or throw it back up without choking, plus they act, play, eat and drink normal until they pass or throw up the item. I worry about my guy too, and I can just imagine what else he has in his tummy. Lol. There is a great article on here that JeannieCo wrote titled The dangers when bullies swallow foreign objects. You can find the article on the Home Forum.

UGH.... sounds like you have to make sure everyting is off the floor. We've been very lucky with all our Bully babies... never ate what they shouldn't.

I have found Winston w/socks, but he puts them in his bed & chews on them... So far I haven't found any holes in them, or discovered that he was trying to eat them!!! My vet just told me today that most obstruction surgeries are the results of socks & underwear consumed... LOL Winston seems to favor shoes, but luckily he hasn't eaten one of those either. I would say just make sure to keep your clothes in the hamper...
