I am so sorry to hear you went through all of that! Thankfully you followed your gut and went to see a different vet! I am so happy that she is on the mend and that you found a vet you love & can trust!

I don't know if this is the right section for this or not...apologies if not. I just wanted to vent and put out a warning to anyone that may need it. Please make sure the vet you are taking your bully to is knowledgeable about bullies even if it it to the slightest degree. If you have doubts or your gut is telling you something is not right with the care you are receiving...don't sit on that feeling. Research n find another. I've switched..my gut told me to switch but I thought I was just being over protective or neurotic etc. however, I was right in my feelings. I'm not here to bash the vet I was taking Brie to, however I do want to share why I am so incredibly outraged...if you all don't mind ..please. I think it might help me clear my head n not go there n beat someone up..LOL I have been taking Brie there since 8 weeks. The original 2 vets were nice n seemed to know about bullies. Well, they both left n other vets started..relief vets, vets in training, vets w experience..several vets there..all supposedly grand. Ok..fine..I wasn't thrilled w seeing rotating ppl, but I understood. So..Brie got the ulcer in her left eye..they stained her eyes, gave us 2 medicines n demanded we return every 2 days as eye issues we urgent to take care if..not a problem, I brought her in every 2 days. And every 2 days they stained her eye, said it was healing and wanted to add her blood serum to it for better healing. Ok..so we did that. Her right eye started blinking n squinting..her left eye mind you was pretty much closed. The vets office looked at both eyes...mentioned she had hairs but didn't think that was what had caused the ulcer...mentioned hairs..that is all. Wtf do I know about hairs in the eyelids...told us to keep any eye on both eyes put the antibiotic ointment in both n return in 2 days. ?? so, we started putting all the medicines in both eyes at the suggestion of someone here..THANK YOU Lisa (@desertskybulldogs).. I sent her video n pics cos I was so concerned. She also recommended i take her o see the vet the next day. Well, the next day neither of her eyes were really opening. It was the weekend n I called the specialist that spayed n fixed her palate. They recommended a different vet which got us in immediately. The vet took one look at Brie w out any instruments at first, n knew right off the bat thst the hairs in her eyelids were the issue and desperately needed to be removed. Her eyes were red n swollen. 2 days later he got us in to the ophthalmologist..because it was urgent. My bully had been in pain for 2 weeks ..2 frikkn weeks..she also developed ulcers in both eyes from the hairs. I'm getting her today from the ophthalmologist who did the cryotherapy yesterday ..and who could not believe it was not suggested weeks ago... Ok..thank you for letting me vent. Brie should be ok (?) and we have a new and wonderful vet. :whew:
Good for you finding a new vet!!! It just torques my behind when vets don't take the time to learn or research an animal. I understand your outrage and rightly so. I don't know that I could be so calm knowing these vets left that baby in pain for two weeks. GRRRRRRR!!! I would have some serious word vomit for those people.

I'm so very sorry about your vet drama, and Thank God you went to the specialist!!! It is so damn frustrating trying to help your dog & you keep getting different answers.

I believed Bella died because of our vet... I let him spay her during her heat cycle, and I didn't realize she could bleed to death (which is what happened). When I did more research I realized most vets will NOT spay during heat, even though my vet told me it wasn't an issue. I had spayed our Boxer during heat & there were no issues. I feel horrible that I didn't do more research, or get on EBN sooner... But ultimately I trusted our vet he's supposed to be an "expert". I'm in the process of finding a new vet... Sigh ; (

Aww poor baby so glad you followed your gut and found some one who knows what to do.
My vet is a hour away in good traffic but I wouldnt take my kids to anyone but him. Many years ago my first bulldog got pyrometra and I didnt know about the vet I have know till it was almost to late. Luckely a lady my husband had just started working with also had bullies and told us to go to him. And if It wasent for him knowing eaxctley what was wrong and rushing her into surgery I would have lost her.

I am so sorry you and your baby Brie had to go thru this. We are so hardwired to trust those in authority we dont question what they do or suggest. I am guilty of this even when I question them I do it in silence. Good for you for trusting your instinct. Brie has a wonderful mom and is so darn cute  I love the picture of her falling asleep with the cone of shame

We found a great vet fortunately for Loki when he was very young we did our research before we even brought him home. The down fall is now we are about an hour away from the vet because we have since moved. It is not too bad when I have to bring him in since I can coordinate with work and the vet to have him seen. When we moved we asked neighbors and friends where they bring their dogs. There was one vet that everyone loved but upon researching them and calling the vet had no idea or even dealt with an eb before, strike one. We looked at other vets all the while bringing Loki with to see if he liked them or the facility he didn't like any of them most of them he wouldn't even walk in the door there were plenty that we walked up and left right away, strike two. Then the one that I found that the vet had dealt with bulldogs and even owned a french himself Loki did not like him at all he even scared peed and backed into the corner, not like him at all, strike three! So here we are an hour away from our vet but he loves her and she is great with him so I guess we are ok with having to drive 2 hours round trip if he is happy. The things we do for our babies.

I am glad that you finally found someone that can help Brie!!! It is never a good feeling when they are sick or hurt especially since they can't tell us what is wrong with them :*(
