I'm not talking Mt.Everest here, but maybe at 7000-8000ft elevation? I'm tentatively planning a road trip, just me and the boys, for September, and am looking at my options. I really want to take them to Mammoth Mountains which is a 5hr drive from LA and simply a beautiful place. But, I'm concerned with the high elevation and the bulldog's respiratory tract. I certainly don't want to put them at risk for altitude sickness or any breathing difficulties. Any words of wisdom or experience are most welcome!

Henny...well first of all..Jeannie lives about 5,000 ft altitude. We go to Big Bear all the time..it's a bit over 7,000 ft. Absolutely no worries. Jake never ever skips a beat!

Walley-Bubba was fine last weekend at about 7000 feet.
I know my ears had to be popped a couple of times and I wondered if his did too.
But I guess he yawned enough to keep them popped.

JAKEISGREAT and Starkie, thanku for your replies! Good to know! Yeah Becky, I was gonna ask u about going to Big Bear...I didn't know it was 7000ft tho! I feel better in knowing you guys had good experiences with your bullies cuz i'd hate for anything to happen especially being far from home.

TessaAndSamson takes Sam camping up there often with no problems. ;)

That I do! The Mammoth area and the June Lake Loop are pretty much my favorite places in the whole world so we go up as much as we can :) They should be fine, I haven't noticed that the elevation has any effect on Samson. He's usually pretty lazy and doesn't like to take long walks and it's no different up there :)

Well, we went to my favorite campsite.
Sheep Creek in the Cedar Grove campground.
Kings Canyon National Forest, about 4500' (8000 along the way).
Due east of Fresno on 180 as far as you can go.
It was way too hot, honestly felt like 100 at 10:38 this morning.
So I decided to bale for WB's sake.
With the A/C on max, he snored the whole way home.

ps
We were tent camping last night.
It was cold this early morning (41).
For once he didn't mind being covered with a blankie.
But the heat had him beat later.
One thing he learned really fast - walk in the shade not in the direct sun.
Smart doggie.

pps
No dogs allowed on the trails - BAH!
Not possible to see the General Sherman Tree or walk Zumwalt Meadows.

Starkie, wow, sounds like a great trip! That's too bad that dogs aren't allowed on trails...why's that?! Sounds beautiful but yes, that's hot!

The "No Pets" rule is implemented at all national parks, or so it seems.
But it was a good, albeit short trip - a cute little ranger named Anita (same as my beloved Mother-in-Law (RIP)) talked me into get an Access pass.
Access pass allowed people with disabilities free access to all national parks (I told Anita I wasn't ready for that yet but after I gave her my long list, she was quite persuasive).
Next time, Carmel by the sea! The most dog friendly town on earth. Spectacular scenary. Cool enough for bullies too. Dogs all over the beach and dog friendly restraunts.
Easier too on The Awesome Power (SRT-4) who at 106,000 miles may soon need a head gasket because with the A/C on, she almost overheated going up the 8000' hills.

WB was fine with the elevation but the heat was a worry so we left.
