    Default Giant bulldog?

    Hi everyone,

First time posting here, but a long time bulldog lover! I currently own a french bulldog but will be adding an english to the family sometime within the next year. Anyways, I was at the vet with my frenchie yesterday and I take him to a bulldog specialist so there is always tons of different bulldogs there. I usually see the typical looking french/english/american bulldogs there but yesterday something really caught my eye! Two huge (60-100 lbs I'd guess) bulldogs came walking in the door and I thought they were just beautiful! They looked exactly like an english bulldog except much bigger and taller, and they were brindle and white. They also seemed to be in good health despire their giant size and face wrinkles, not having any trouble breathing or playing at the vet! They also did not seem to be overweight, just musular.

Are these dog's I saw english bulldogs, or a different type of breed altogeather? If they are english bulldogs, why were they so big? Just curious because I've never seen anything like them! Thanks for your time everyone!

Im guessing they were Olde English Bulldogs. Not unusual for them to be 100 pounds.

Google some images of Old English bullys ... they do have longer legs, bodies and also their snouts are often slightly longer. Of course, bullys do come in all different shapes and sizes and a 70lb plus english bulldog is not that uncommon!!

to EBN and keep us informed in your search for your new bully!!!

Thanks for the replys everyone, it's very possible that what I saw were Olde English Bulldogs. The only difference I could really point out between pictures of olde english bulldogs on google and what I had seen at the vet are the facial features. The dogs I seen had a near identical face to a regular english bulldog except much larger. Maybe it was a mixed breed dog? I guess I will never know for certain, but thanks again for the help!! Have a great day everyone.

and To the site. Its a great forum for advice and information. I am guessing those were Olde English Bulldog as they are taller and much more muscular than English Bulldog. They are very good looking dogs.

It's also possible they were bull mastiffs. Their faces resemble ebs quite a bit especially if they are brindle and they are beautiful

The Spanish Bulldog (used to help create the English Bulldog back in 1900's)
can be 100 lbs but I'm betting they could be bull mastiffs if they had short faces
or mixed breed. Olde English Bulldogges are taller, heavier but have longer snouts.

    Sound beautiful...I love BIG dogs

My Lucy just turned a year old last weekend and she's already 70 lbs. She's an OEB with very long legs and is very slim right now. The vet figures once she starts filling out she will be 85ish. She's also extremely athletic and has no problem keeping up to my Boston terrier when they're racing around our large lot.

They may be the more rare bulldog breed "renascence bulldogs" or the further refined version that Gargoyle Renascence version. If you google images of them or look at the gargoyle bulldog breeders site, you will see they have a very similiar face to EB, but extremely muscular. Not sure how big they get, but certainly in the 60 & up category. I think they are very close to OEB, but have been registered as a separate breed.
