Pup eating his poop!!!

My 5 month old pup is eating his poop, he is always hungry. I was feeding him 3 cups of totw a day 1.5 in the am 1.5 in the evening. The vet told me cut it back to 1 cup morning, 1 cup evening, he acts like he is starving. Is this why he is eating his poop?

Try feeding him 3 x daily, either 3/4 cup or a cup if his weight is good.

He's not 6 months yet and for some pups, 2 x daily is just to long between
feedings.

Vets aren't God and don't know everything, use your own 'gut instinct'
concerning your pup. Good luck!

What are you feeding your pup? Poo eating is usually a sign of lack of digestive enzymes. Green tripe or better food with those enzymes could do the trick.

From my experience 2 cups a day for a 5 month old is not enough... From 4-12 months I give 3 cups a day....

I don't think that is enough food .... and TOTW is a good food.

Daddy was a bad poop eater ... but usually just the cats poop and never his own!! Apparently, it's a delicacy ....

Change foods.

Heff used to eat his until we changed then he never even looked at it again.

I think 2 cups is just not enough. I would give three cups and split it to three times a day if you can.

Thanks everyone, I'm starting to feed 1 cup 3 times a day
Today. Hopefully that does the trick. If that doesn't do it maybe ill change foods, but I always was told that's a great food!!!

I think that upping the times you feed him will help tremendously. We suspected Kaida was eating her poop at first, but she was stepping on it (she does the chicken scratch thing after she poops?) and moving it that way (we found out by watching the video) but she was always hungry, and we upped her food (she already gets fed 3x a day) and she isn't acting like she's missed a meal anymore.

TOTW IS a very good food but every dog is different. What is good for my dog may not work for yours. There are no stedfast rules with food.... just stick with the high quality foods and you will find one eventually that is perfect for your pup

I would switch to feeding him 3x a day, it seems like thats whats best for pups under 12 months, or actually in general. It helps them control the restless feeling for feed time

Did you get him dewormed cause sometimes they will eat it cause the worms got all the nutrition. My female eats cat poo then she will get sick and throw it back up. Gross!!!

Yes he was dewormed and is on heartgaurd as well
