Long story short, we had to have our Olde English, Roxy, put down back in March. Well last night, we received some mail from the University of Georgia saying that our vet had made a contribution in Roxy's name to their College of Veterinary Medicine Sundown Surgery Fund. The letter goes on to say that The Sundown Surgery Fund is named after a cat and is used to provide medical and surgical treatment for animals whose families cannot afford the costs. I'm planning on calling either tonight or tomorrow to find out how much of a contribution was made as I'd either like to match it or possibly buy lunch for my vets office one day. Being from Georgia, Bulldogs are quite the popular breed thanks to UGA (even though I'm not a fan of the team). They've also developed one of the top veterinary programs in the country. I'm curious if our vet makes these contributions for just Bulldogs (since we're in Georgia and UGA's mascot is a Bulldog) or if they do it for all of their patients.

So sorry about Roxy - R.I.P. baby girl. That is indeed a very nice gesture.

Personally I wouldnt ask about 'the amount' so that you can match it, it might be just a little something, or it might be a big something - I'd send College of Veterinary Medicine Sundown Surgery Fund, a check with what you would like to give -

Maybe you Vet sends out a Token donation for every patient that crosses the bridge, and its ment to make the parents feel good, but you really dont want to know that it was a $10.00 gift or anything. Or your Vet might of had a very special attachment to your baby, and sent them $25,000.00

Inquiring the amount could be considered 'Nosey' and as a contributor, I dont think I'd want to make any amounts know - (you gave rescue Bulldogs $10,000.00, but you only gave Rescue Huskys $100.00) whannn that isnt fair!

Not saying that is what you would do, but there ARE people out there who would react just that way -

Staff lunch? nice Gesture also :)

Very nice gesture, I wouldn't ask them the amount either - but would send as thank you letter.

That was very kind of them, I would admit I would be curious too, but rarhett makes very good points about maybe it's better not knowing.

I agree with these folks.

When Mable died, a memorial page was posted on the Cascade Bulldog Rescue/Rehome website. In my grief, I sent the link to everyone that I thought might care even a little bit. I was so devastated and I thought, hey, it might also explain my strange behavior at the time...crying etc. MANY folks sent money to them in her name. It was touching. I never asked how much (even tho some contributions were sizable) and simply sent a thank you note to each person who contributed. If you'd like to contribute too, just send them a check or better yet, support a local EB rescue to you in Roxie's name.
