Okay soo...took our baby jackson to my mamas casa to meet her and my dad and also their dogs-German Shepard female and Siberian husky female....GS is not spayed....

Jackson was nice at first but then went nuts....he started trying to bite her/get at her/chase her/and I ended up getting bit also....

He like a said in a post before was "supposed" to be used as bait in dog fighting-so the guy who got him from told us...
I was wondering if anyone thinks that this behavior is because he is not neutered(we are going to neuter him)...? Or because he has potentially been exposed to either dog fighting/dog abuse/starvation...?

He is definitely different from my rocky...he's more alert, more protective, really really really strong for being only 6months and only about 29lbs(he gained 2.4lbs)...

Any suggestions...? Help!!!! 😳🐶

Dogs just have different personalities. Some are big softies while others are more protective of everything. It could be his history too or maybe meeting the other dogs was just too much for him at that time?

I'm not any kind of expert..but first thing to do is neuter him. It might not help with his attitude, but it sure won't hurt and it might help calm him down enough that he can be worked with. Maybe the female was close to being in heat? I'm sure He would know before humans. I would limit his exposure to other dogs until you can control him and he is neutered.

Respectfully, you guys in the States sometimes seem to think that neutering is some kind of magic bullet. Our unneutered boy is very big for a bully and very dog dominant, but he is not aggressive per se, although he will always stand up for himself (ie fight back if attacked by a bigger dog). Actually I think that is all good.

It seems as if Jax had a hard start, so there may be issues with that. However I really think socialisation is the key. Our boy was the only one in his litter and lost him mom when young, so he didn't know how to behave properly when he was little. However over time he learnt good dog manners just through simple experience and being nipped for being naughty when young.

I don't think myself there is too much of an issue with a pup being aggressive etc; the pup just doesn't know better. If you socialise, socialise, socialise with other dogs, things should come right over time, provided you are patient. (If they don't you can get muzzles that will even fit bulldogs I believe; however hopefully that should not be necessary).Best of luck.

Thanks everyone...I forgot to add that my munchkin daisy (Pom/chi) is in heat and he does not act that way with her at all....she doesn't like him to much and checks him and he backs off/leaves her be..funny he is kind of scared of her...she's the queen bee here....but she loves my other EB rocky! She will love J. too she is a hard one...😊she just need time!
Yes I do believe I need to socialize him and I myself also like that he is protective but I don't want him to be over protective/dangerous!
I also may add that the GS is hated by many...including my daisy! So maybe she just has a nervous personality that my boy fed off of.....who knows....I guess we will see
He has a vet appt. Monday for his last shot! So will also ask the vet and give any updates!!!! 😊🐶

Like JAKEISGREAT said, get him neuter, it will calm him some. Second, sometimes when dogs are meeting its best to begin outside and not inside the house. Take them for a short walk together, let them smell each other and so on. I feel horrible about what he most have gone through in the past being use as bait , it angers me so much, but I think if you continue to socialize him he will get much better.

If fixing him doesn't work you might want to check out a behaviorist... especially if he is having a hard time with socialization. They can help you introduce him to other dogs in the most effective way that it will be a positive experience for him.

+1

If you feel he is aggressive the best thing you can do for him (AND YOU) is to get him working with somebody who specializes in aggressive dogs. A good trainer can figure out why he's acting the way he is, and start helping you down the right path.

It can turn into a nasty cycle... your dog gets into a situation where you get worried about how he'll act. Your dog senses your nervousness and in turn gets nervous/protective. Things normally go downhill from there.
