    Default Eye problem.. so disappointed!!!

    Hello Bully Friends..

    I'm so disappointed.
You guys know that I had a problem with Piper's ears right? Where the breeder said they were perfect rose and one week later they got erect as French Bulldog's ears. So ok.. I kind of accepted that.

When I decided to get another puppy I did my homework. Asked the breeder a billion questions, called two people that bought puppies from the breeder... and all of them said the breeder was serious.

When Mooney arrived, I took him to the vet who said he had a conjunctivitis. I sent the breeder an email.. and she said that his eyes were red since he had a cherry eye surgery done. WHAT??? She never mentioned that. I told her that I was very disappointed, and she immediately said that this was not a big deal, it was common in bullies and I could send the puppy back if I was not happy that she would refund the money.
How can I send the puppy back??????

Well.. today I got home from work and I saw this thing coming out of his eye... Please look at the picture below.
She said the gland was clipped.
What do you guys think this is?? Thanks in advance!!!

That looks like cherry eye, but it is more pink than bright pink. Hmm..... this breeder does not sound like a very good one to me! I cannot believe they did not tell you about it and that it is "No Big Deal".... don't they know that it can be reoccurring, and possibly cause dry eye or something in the future??? This is VERY important for you to know!!!!! They should have informed you of the entire medical history of the puppy!!!! Grrrrr...... Me wants to bite again. I need a biting smiley.

Find out who the vet it who did the surgery so you can call the vet, and request more information and possible future eye health issues the pup could have.

What gets me the most angry, they will "refund the puppy for another", knowing FULL WELL THAT YOU LOVE YOUR PUPPY and won't give them up! Okay I am done, I could go on and on.....

    and on....

    and on.....

Looks like an inflammation from the conjunctivitis, it is treatable so take him to your vet. Sounds like your breeder is not being up front with their clients. These people give good breeders a bad name. So sorry you ran across a dishonest breeder.

Did the breeder say clipped or tacked? Wilson has had cherry eye and they tacked it. I've heard they can pop free again but so far it hasn't happened. Yes it is very common. My bulldog Wilson and his sister Snowflake developed cherry eye in one eye only at exactly the same time when they were four months old. Both had the surgery done. I feel your frustration about the breeder. I went through the proper channels, asked all the right questions and I still wound up with a prone to allergies bulldog.

So now I'm aware that if I ever wanted another bulldog I know it's still a gamble but I would at least be aware of all the health risks first hand. There is only one thing I can count on. That bulldogs are the sweetest most lovable dogs I've ever had the pleasure of owning.

I'm positive that, with a family like yours, the pup will be right as rain in no time. Others with more eye experience will post too. The breeder not "Mentioning" that this dog had been under the knife for something is HIGHLY IRREGULAR and borders on fraud. No big deal? Yes. A Very Big Deal, in my opinion.

....... and what is your vet doing for his current eye issue conjunctivitis???????

How about some new pix of Piper too?

Im sure everything will turn out just fine with cute little Mooney.

From the photo, it looks like Mooney may have the start of cherry eye, but if the glands were truly removed, I don't think that is possible. Can you get the surgical records from the breeder to show your vet so she can make an accurate diagnosis? Regardless of your breeder's position on the matter, you need the medical records for Mooney's safety.

    Good luck.

From the picture --to me it looks like third eyelid irritation--don't think it is cherry eye. Lucy gets this when her eyes are dry. (I am not a vet but I have spent hours at the vet opthamologist with my girl)

Go out to the drugstore and get a eye drop called BLINK. Make sure you only get blink or a product like it. (No visine etc). My eye specialist recommends this product.

Apply the drops a few times a day and I bet you sill see the bump going down. A vet check may be in order to make sure nothing else is going on--but the blink drops will make the pup more comfortable in the meantime.

Also, mention a condition called "dry eye" to your vet. You can also google it. In your research you will find that it is not uncommon for dogs to develop dry eye or KCS after a cherry eye procedure. Dry eye is usually easily managed with eye drops but it is something you should find out he has sooner rather than later. Just something to keep in mind--not trying to freak you out.

I wish you and your pup the best. He's a real cutie!

Guys thinks very much for all your replies. The breeder said it was clipped. So probably this is happening now in the other eye. What is very curious is that it doesn't look as bad today. I also questioned the breeder why the gland was clipped and not tacked. And then she sent me this link:
What They Don't Want You To Know

    Thanks again.
