Hi, I don't know if this is still active but I had a question my Bobby was born back in Nov 26 2017 he is an all white bullied with his tail brown but right now I was calling him or making noises and he doesn't even move his ears... Could it be that he is just ignoring me or could it be that he is deaf? Screenshot_20180104-230717.jpg

Stand behind(where he cannot see you) him and clap loudly. If he doesn't flinch then there's cause for concern.

I would have the vet confirm, but if he did not react it is possible

This is medical statistics fact, that higher than normal percent of white cats and dogs, especially with blue eyes, are deaf. This is true for many breeds. But usually breeders donā€™t sell them to people, bcs 1st, people will come back for refund, and 2nd, they will try to hide the fact that deafness runs in bloodline. Itā€™s not good for reputation.
Puppies can be deaf from birth, which is definitely not your case, as you doggie hears well. Some white dogs with blue eyes can develop deafness later in life, but it is not so common scenario. I donā€™t think you must worry at all.
Blindness is much more rare defect, which can happen in white dogs, but it is usually combined with abnormally small eyes, which is immediately detected. What concerns cataract and other older age eye problems, non white dogs also develop them, white dogs are just a little bit more prone, bcs they lack pigment to protect inside of the eye from light.
But for now Iā€™m sure you donā€™t need to worry.

I had the same issue with one pup of the litter she has white on her but brown spots too. But as she got older and I mean only a few weeks older her hearing started going away. Her new owners brang it to my attention I never knew but as weeks passed she became hard of hearing u have to yell very loud for her to hear us. Vet did the same test with clapping or dropping keys behind her but pretty much thatā€™s all they can do. I was told for a official hearing test u have to go to a specialist very costly.

Megan = Meg,
DSCN8319.jpgIMG_2017-12-10_19-57-04.jpeg I have a almost all White Great Dane that is totally Deaf , it is due to White Danes are produced from doubling up on the Merling gene, as happens in Harlequin x Harlequin breeding, Harlequin x Merle breeding or Merle x Merle breeding.
We use a vibrator collar on her and it works very well, the vibration cause her to look at Me and then i use my hands like you would any dog to get her to do what you want .
Even tho she is deaf the Dane is in some ways very much like a Bulldog , they always want to be close to you they do not wonder very much , and yes even tho she is deaf I still talk to her as I do with the other 5 dogs we have IMG_2017-12-17_09-52-07.jpeg Here is molly with our two Bulldogs Rosie and Megan . Megan and Molly are a bonded pair almost now , Molly is 14 months and Megan is 8 months old

I've heard that about cats, and have even known a couple of people who had hearing impaired cats and they were white. I think the deafness issue is pretty predominate in Dalmations too.
