It is with MANY emotions that we announce that CUDDLES has returned to AaBR. CUDDLES was adopted 4 years ago and all was well... or so we thought. A year ago we received a phone call from a vet clinic that had just scanned CUDDLES for a micro-chip because she had been picked up as a stray!! A STRAY!! We told the clinic to only release her to an AaBR volunteer so that we could have her examinednfortunately for CUDDLES, the vet gave her back to her owner. The owner never responded to our request for explanation nor did she send CUDDLES vet records as her adoption contract mandated. Well, last Tuesday we received a call at 8am stating that CUDDLES had been picked up as a stray. AGAIN!! This time we got CUDDLES back and she went straight to our vet. Her vet bill is currently at $800; she is in deplorable shape Needless to say we do NOT allow our dogs to live in the same situations, conditions, or danger that we rescued them from initially. CUDDLES will not be returning to her adopter because this adopter clearly violated at least five of the clauses in our adoption contract, and has demonstrated that she is an irresponsible owner.
We do everything we can to ensure that our bullies are placed in very safe, loving homes, and sadly the reality is that no matter how many interviews we do, how many references we check, or how many home visits we conduct we cannot predict the future. As always, it's the animal that suffers. We are happy to welcome CUDDLES back and relieved to know that she is safe.
11-20-12 Update: It is painfully obvious that CUDDLES had been living outside for a long time now. She is no longer housebroken and now that she has been given a nice, warm, soft bed to sleep in when she does go outside she begs and cries
at the door to go back in. It's almost like she's afraid that if she's out too long that she'll never get back in. She is being treated for her terrible skin issues (oh does she stink!!), severe ear infections, eye issues, and downright neglect!! On a happy note - she is heartworm negative!!! She has needed the same treatment and medical care of any of our dogs that we get from a shelter or found as a stray with no owner. THis is not how it should be for any dog!
Cuddles original bio from 2008: Cuddles, aka Cuddle Bug, is an absolute lover girl with people, and is truely our little wiggle butt princess! Cuddles is in great health, already microchipped, spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and weighs around 45 pounds. Cuddles may have had a litter or two in the past by the looks of her sagging under-belly skin Cuddles is house trained and likes to wrestle around with other dogs. When Cudds entered our rescue program, she had 3 infected teeth pulled, so it's very important to maintain oral care/tooth brushings with Cudds to keep her mouth and breath smelling good. Cuddles had injuries to her ears when we got her, but now all her scabs are gone and her fur is beginning to grow back. Cuddles can be a very dominant/alpha girl upon first interactions when meeting new doggie friends and she tends to show her dominance right from the start. She is not shy going up to a new doggie and asserting her 'in charge' attitude from the second they meet. Cuddles may do better with larger dogs than smaller ones. And we feel that households with submissive dogs or no dogs at all would be best for Cudds. Cudds is not really an active girl, although she loves to wrestle around with the boys and take charge when out in the backyard playing with the others. Cuddles is a very independent female, but at the same time, she loves to cuddle and get smothered with kisses! Cuddles is a small, compact girl with lots of personality. It's so funny to see her romp around in the backyard like a little bunny rabbit. She's solid white except for a brindle dot on top of her head and one on her rump!
