Ollie had 2 walks this morning. The first was at 4:23AM and the second, longer, all the way up to the corner was at 9AM. Heās pretty much got the leash down except for trying to switch sides on me. I just schooch him over with my leg.
Since we were able to make it up to the corner (we have sidewalks), we started working on SIT, STAY OK HEEL, CROSS. HES GOT THE SIT burned into his brain now. All my dogs have always been taught the corner thing. The chances of them bolting into traffic once they get this are nil.
There is a body of research called Brain Periodization for Learning. Essentially, the brain goes through ages and stages when it is optimal for learning and really absorbing knowledge. In humans like 2-5 (early childhood learning) again at 11-15 (middle school years). These are times of maximum brain ability to synthesize, analyze and manipulate and evaluate information. So, I think Ollie is in his toddler stage. He can really really learn fast and he can really focus. Therefore, as fast as he can absorb learning Iām loading it in. I think this is also why a very high quality food is important to nurture the brain growth and brain health.
Anyway, thatās me, thatās what I did for the living. For a few years I worked for NASSP researching, stating hypotheses and presenting the findings. I guess I miss it. Thanks for indulging me.
Ohhhh and all this spun off from me wanting to show off Ollieās post walks exhausted photo.
