I mix it in his breakfast and I use it topically and put it on any places that look inflamed. Its great to put on dry skin it absorbs pretty fast I use it on my elbows. It also has other numerous positives like it helps with the immune system.

I bought this at Costco because someone said that it could help with Vegas and his epilepsy. I opened it up and was shocked. It's solid! How do you guys go about giving it to your dogs. And how much?

I keep mine in the kitchen in a cabinet next to the stove so it doesn't melt but is soft enough to mix in easily with his food.

Your hands can warm it up. Coconut oil is a solid below 76 degrees and a liquid above it. We usually just put some in a baggie and rub it until it is liquid again and then put it on food or her belly.

This is the reasoning for me to try it! Found via the internet...Number 6 in an article titled "Top 10 Evidence-Based Heath Benefits of coconut oil. I'm hoping if it works for skin kids...it might work for fur kids.

#6 The Fatty Acids in Coconut Oil Are Turned into Ketones, Which Can Reduce Seizures

A so-called ketogenic (very low carb, very high fat) diet is currrently being studied to treat various disorders.
The best known therapeutic application of this diet is treating drug-resistant epilepsy in children (14).
This diet involves eating very little carbohydrates and large amounts of fat, leading to greatly increased concentrations of ketone bodies in the blood.
For some reason, this diet can dramatically reduce the rate of seizures in epileptic children, even those who haven’t had success with multiple different types of drugs.
Because the MCTs in coconut oil get shipped to the liver and turned into ketone bodies, they are often used in epileptic patients to induce ketosis while allowing for a bit more carbs in the diet (15, 16).

Bottom Line: The MCTs in coconut oil can increase blood concentration of ketone bodies, which can help reduce seizures in epileptic children.
