A year or so ago, I decided that I wanted to cut my boxer's nails. I found at Petsmart some clippers that have a sensor inside. When you put them on the nail you can move them down and a light will let you know if you are in the quick or not. They were around $50, I think. I still didn't like doing nails though and just let the vet keep doing it. But those clippers would work really well for dogs with black nails.

I cut their nails myself, I just have a normal doggie nail cutter but it works fine I thinkBoeboe and Bennie are doing good while I cut their nails, it's Joey that's the difficult one
She'll be fine for a while but then she gets bored and starts to fight it, she'll try to bite the cutter and she'll wrestle and go crazy to get away, lol, she would never hurt me though, she's so sweet<3 I've never cut her nails to short and I don't think her previous owner cut her nails at all cos they were very long when we got her.
You were born with the ability to change someone's life, don't ever waste it.
Any one try these yet?

I have always cut my dogs nails but these bullies will not let me. they pull and wiggle and I just can't do it myself. It is so embarrassing! With the black nails, I cut them just below the curve. I also always had styptic powder on hand-in case of bleeding.

“It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog,and I will become as generous and loving as they are"
I do clip Kira's nails, just did it today actually. I use a regular nail clipper now when she is still young and it works great and once she is older will be using pet nail clipper. Without clipping nails, the fingers/paws have no way to form correctly.
I get so nervous doing our bulldog's nails because half of his are black and half of them are normal. My husband does them - He will trim the normal colored ones, then he will go by that length for the black ones. When it is up to me to trim, I just take him to our PetSmart, or if that isn't an option then our vet does as well

i understand the concerns of cutting nails with the possibility of injuring the quick. I cringe when I do this.
Solution: DREMEL - I use it very comfortably. Quick and easy. I never looked back.
