Need help from the food gurus here!! Over the past several weeks, we have had Jackson at the vet with eye infections, and a weird lesion on his eye lid. During his first visit, the vet thought it was allergy related. She thought his feet and in between his toes looked red. He never licks his paws or scratches. Long story short, he went back today with another dermatitis type lesion on his eye. She took scrapings of between his toes and a tape test to his eyebrow ( where the lesion is). Negative for Dermodex mites but all scrapings and tape showed yeast. So, naturally the discussion went to food. I have him on Fromm's 4 star ( not grain free) and I switch out the proteins every 5 weeks. She wanted to give me a script for Royal Canin allergy dog food- as she says it is the ONLY company that has a dedicated factory for just that food- ( no cross contamination). I am not comfortable with that.
What would you recommend I do to change his diet? Stick with Fromms and go grain free? Go to Raw ( cannot do a true raw- would have to do freeze dried or a company that I can buy it from). Or home cooking- what about vitamin supplements? Please advise! helsonwheels Manydogs
Thanks in advance!!!!

I am certainly not a "food guru". I feed my dogs the best that I can afford, as long as it agrees with all of them.(You could try grain free-no potatoes first.} All my 5 eat Taste of the Wild PACIFIC SALMON and none have had any allergies or yeast. They have had it since birth the oldest being 12, the youngest 10 mos. Most others here don't recommend this food, but my pack has done very well with it. I am sure other suggestions will come for you. Most Vets are not "dog food specialists" and are paid by the Hill's and Science Diets, which they sell in their office.

I swear these vets with their damm RC or SH.... follow your gut!

You can make your own raw or I would like most knows stick to Acana single protein bags. It’s the only kibble that has the highest meat protein. But add as a topper raw organs. Better than nothing. It will help as organs are loaded of probiotics. Also add fermented sauerkraut or fermented veggies. I only use probiotics from food n not the pill or powdered form. Definitely if you can go 100% would be better. In the USA seems co-op have better prices. Have you asked butchers or farmers? Cheaper there as you cut the middle man.

If you can’t do raw.... avoid white potatoes. Banks had yeast issues and did well on Fromm pork and peas, but she did best on raw turkey and duck.
