This morning I read an article on Facebook about Smithfield Farms ("the largest pork producing farm in the USA") being sold to China in September. The more I read, the more concerned I was about process regulations in China being "far inferior to requirements of the U.S.A." and where this processed meat could be going.

Meats under a label of "raised in the USA" could have still been processed over seas, in disgusting conditions with minimal, if any, regulations and in turn, distributed to fast food restaurants, schools and supermarkets.

One fact that I read (but have yet to follow up on, so I am going from the article) stated that Starkist Tuna is now owned by Korea and "is in conflict with the U.S. concerning quality, safety and records keeping..."
It is disturbing reading about the quality of "farmed fish" overseas. It is even more disturbing what those "farmed fish" are being fed (chicken dung, expired antibiotics, raw sewage).

Other than being a bully's mom, I have four children so discovering that brand names like Morrell, Eckrich, Krakus, Cudahy, Premium Hams, Cook's and Gwaltney could possibly be a part of this deception is alarming.

What does this have to do with an EBN post? I am wondering where certain companies acquire their meat? I already put in an e-mail to the company that we use and I am hoping that the meat company they use is not affiliated with this process. If I can go to the supermarket and trust a well known meat company product, as the label reads "RAISED IN THE USA", but not even think to ask "but where was it processed" then, as a consumer, I feel deceived. This is not to say that your favorite dog food company is deceiving you, but that they may also be unaware and it wouldn't hurt to do a little digging to find out for sure - if anything, for peace of mind that all the time, care and research that goes into finding your baby's "perfect food" is worth the full knowledge.

Kosher meat. They have very strict rules on what they're fed and the processing.
Also easy to find out what farms/ranch they come from. Especially when you hit the very religious stores that only sell products from specific family run farms.

Please feel free to message me any reputable articles or info! I'd like to know more. Here is the link if anyone wants to read from my source...I do not know this writer but it was posted in my daily news feed, but I found it very interesting.

Oh Laurie, thank you for your post & for your link. I know this situation only too well,
I have autoimmune diseases and eating healthy (for me) makes the difference between
bedridden (which I have been) or getting around a bit. I choose the latter!

What a tragedy our government cares NOTHING for us, and evil, just plain evil. They
know what they're doing, they know the filth they're condemning us to eat. You can bet
NONE of them eat this filth or serve to their children. Of course, they have the income to
make this choice, unlike so many of us. I'm a widow & living on disability, no family to help
me nor would I want them too. Organic, healthy choices cost twice as much and, the govt.
is ever more stealthily putting restrictions on these companies, passing laws on us...no
turning your yard into gardens, no using rainwater, etc. What will we do when we have NO
choice but overseas, processed filth? Why can't we know WHAT is in our food, WHERE it's
grown, processed & shipped? Why don't we have CHOICE? It is a hardship on me to eat
healthy and feed Cami good, wholesome food, hard to find & difficult to pay for when I do.
I could continue but won't, it gets political ;(

Thank you, Laurie & God bless you!

Have you looked into food coops? This might work very well for you.
I'm considering it myself.

Thank you, Ellie...and for the link too.

Yes, I'm looking into that now...still a lot more expensive.
I'm trying to interest my son in splitting it with me. It's
getting harder for me to go to Farmer's Market as I need,
the heat this Summer has made me more ill than usual.
Hoping it's not my new normal ;(

I just love you! I'm sorry to hear about your autoimmune disease struggles! I am a huge researcher, so anything ANYTHING you want me to look into for you, I would be more than happy to! One of my dearest friends has been battling Lyme for years and ever since her diagnosis I have been obsessed with researching!

I am all about learning more involving alternative healing/organic and holistic life too! I wish I were more productive at it, life just gets way too crazy/busy!

On a positive note, I look forward to your comments daily on EBN!! Keep up your amazing, positive impact!! :drawheart2:

Your friend has my sympathy for the Lyme dx and my prayers too.

I appreciate your offer of research, I've spent years of research, it's
appalling there's no more known than 27 years ago when I became
ill. I managed to work until 10 years ago then developed autoimmune
diabetes & Fibro also, so forced on disability 8 years ago, was bedridden.
Nothing really helped, had several Specialists & a box of rx'es daily to
take, finally was so enraged with the bs, I got a computer & researched,
fired all but my Rheumatolgist & Primary Dr, weaned off all but 2 rx'es
& some OTC anti-inflamatories and got as clean as possible with diet. It
got me out of bed and altho I still have bad days, I'm living life!

Will send anything interesting on to you.

You & EBN are treasured blessings to me!

I received a reply from the dog food company (Fromm family) regarding my issues and concerns with this "processing" technique. I will paste on here if anyone uses this product and wants to know the answer...I must also add my personal opinion (as usual;) That although they did not disclose their source of meat (company/brand) I felt better and assured that they can be trusted to inspect the quality, test the products and DO NOT send/receive any meats from a part of the world that comes into question when food regulations are involved...here is their response (and I was also impressed w/how swift they replied:)

Dear Laurie,

Thank you for your email and in choosing our family's recipes since your Bulldog's puppy years, wow! We certainly do appreciate your dedication and support.

All of the high quality ingredients we select are simply not available strictly in the United States alone, this includes processing of our food grade quality meats. Nothing comes from or reaches the shores of any Asian country including China, it is simply not our practice or in accordance to our family's integrity.

Due to fair trade practices and protection of our valuable resources in the pet food industry, we are unable to disclose the specific names of our trusted suppliers. As you can imagine our quality is of highest standards and fiercely guarded as this information could be improperly used in the wrong hands. It could also create undesired competition for us as a small independent family manufacturer.

Today, our President, Tom Nieman along with his two sons Danny and Bryan, work side by side to carry on the long family tradition of quality and innovation. We produce our artisan pet foods in small, hands-on, controlled batches here in Wisconsin with only the finest ingredients. We process our own meat, fish and vegetables on site. In fact, we're on the same delivery route as local grocery stores and we receive shipments of meat, fish, and produce every day.

In addition to producing superior products, our acute attention to safety is unique. Each batch undergoes several inspections including raw ingredient testing, in-processing testing, and a final PCT (Product Consistency Test) which tests for everything from protein, fat, fiber and moisture to the presence of unwanted contaminates or pathogenic bacteria that could be problematic. Our final product is held on site until our PCT clears it for distribution.

As the maker of our own family recipes our dedication is continually driven on the quality, safety and integrity of the products we offer. This focused manufacturing allows all independent neighborhood pet stores and authorized online retailers to make their own choices on providing programs, coupons, samples and pricing at the store level through guidance of their product distributor.

Always, you can rest assured you're supporting a Wisconsin family business that is committed to their product quality & manufacturing process, their employees, their distributors, and their expanding network of independent and neighborhood pet stores all around the world.
