Help Needed! FOOD HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My vet wants to put Rhino on a low protein and low fiber because of his nerve damage in his back end, do guys have any food suggestion, and he is 5 months old. We are trying to fine the best food for him because the doctor knows that he is a puppy.

The vet said they never seen any thing this bad before, because he is a puppy they don't know what food to give him because they don't want to mess up his growth. And also they want to put him on another food because they want his poop to be firm and not runny because of the nerve damage.

It sounds like those Vets need to reccomend other Vets that DO KNOW.

They just said he had abnormality in his birth, and the day before yesterday we put him on Blue buffalo puppy, but they said it had to much protein. Thats why they want to fine another dog food so his (poop) is firm because it comes out really soft and runny. But it looks better then what it did before because the other owner had him eat kibbles and bits.

Can't your vet recommend a kibble?

There are plenty of low protein foods available, but most also seem to be low fat, and/or for seniors. The low fiber part is difficult.

If your vet can't recommend anything, they should at least be able to advise you on how much protein and what fillers your pup can eat. This way, if all else fails, you can always try home cooking.
You can also try posting in the "Home Cooking Forum" for ideas.

This may be a dumb question-but why would this pup need a LOW protein diet-unless he has kidney problems, also? Did they check his kidney function?

I think if he 's doing ok with the blue buffalo puppy, then he should be fine. Although it's recommended that they transition to adult or all stages food by 6 months of age. Spina bifida (although Rhino isn't one) bullies are able to eat what normal bullies eat. At least that's what I'm aware of.

We've had numerous discussions about food in the forum here, and people have various opinions. IMO, it's not necessarily the amount of protein, but the type and quality of it. It's fantastic that you're able to find a brand that agrees with him so quickly, as allergies are the biggest issue we encounter.

If he didn't transition slowly to the new food that's probably why it's runny, give it some time and also try decreasing the amount you feed by a little bit until it firms up.

The reason low protein is because he cant feel when he poops, it just comes out even when he is sleeping it comes out. Thats why they are trying to fine a food that firms it up. and try to help to see if they can get his nerves back running.
