Tank is currently on natural balance grain free. He is starting to lose weight and is on the skinny side but vet said hes still fine. hes eating 6 cups a day and will be 2 october 16th. when we switched to natural balance limited ingredient it did help noticably but he still had some allergys on the face, stays on benedryl, and now constantly gets small rashes. we have done allergy testing on him he cant have chicken and grains.

Is there a different food out there that might be better for Tank? What do you use on your bullys with food allergies?

If he's eating six cups a day and loosing weight try a higher protein grain free food

WOW! 6 cups a day is a lot of food..Let's get @cowsmom here. She recently helped me change to a new food.

Jake can't have chicken or really any "fowl" and he is not right with salmon. He was on Fromm Beef Fritatta for a long time and did ok. But I still thought his poo wasn't right. So with Cowsmom's help I switched him to Earthborne Holistic Great Plains Feast. Its Bison and he has been doing great on it.

heres a pic from today of him. he weighs 56lbs
Picture 141.jpg

vet said hes still ok weight wise but he seems so skinny so were hoping a food change is the answer. hes been tested for thyroid, and worms even a few rarer parasites and she tested for a couple other things that can cause weight loss but everything came back fine so she said food change

vet visit before he was around 68lbs so its a big difference

That's a big weight loss for no reason! I would be concerned too! I think BellasMom should see this too! Tank does weigh more than Jake but he looks thinner than Jake too. There shouldn't be that big of weight loss without him having a reason for it. Especially feeding him 6 cups of food a day..Jake gets 2 cups a day and he weighs about 52 lbs.

im wondering to if something is going on with that much weight loss and so much food. if hes been tested and all i would try the earthborn great plains and see if it doesnt help. im not a big fan of natural balance limited ingredient food actually. its very low protein. do you need something at like petco or can you get other foods. i would get a higher protein and fat food for sure. I'd be concerned about the weight thing too. Did they check for pacreatitus (sp?) Think of it as the opposite of diabetes. I had a cat who had it. It would cause that kind of weight loss. I would aslo be concerned about the amount of food. That's probably double what he should be eating.

My Zelda was an allergy queen. About the only thing she did well on was Taste of the Wild - no grass, no grain. I used Pacific Stream but there are 3 other varieties, including a bison or venison one and a lamb one. Some of the others have more protein than the Salmon which could help the weight thing. I stick with the lower protein because that's what's best for my smaller dogs.

Wellness Core is pretty high protein too as are most of the other brands of grain free. I think Blue has one and Solid Gold has a bunch and an excellent reputation

he was only eating 2-3 cups before we put him on this food since being on this food hes eating 3c in the morning 3 cups in the afternoon and eats like its going out of style :(. he was on iams before he had great weight but severe allergies :/. seems like we cant have both no allergies and good weight. we have petco and petsmart here but we arent against ordering either. we want to get him on a food that he will do better on.

6 cups a day is way too much food. My Buddy boy might get 2 cups a day if he eats it all and he weighs 57 lbs. I think if your vet is not that concerned about the weight loss I would find a bully specialist and take him to them. In the mean time find another food with a higher protein as others above have suggested. He should not be losing that much weight eating that much food. Please keep us posted on him.

You can order most any food from Petflow. That's where I get the Earthborne. Free shipping if you use englishbulldog or order $49 or more.

hm ok well i dont like the stuff at petsmart and petco doesnt have much but wellness core is good food but all of blue buffalo grain frees have chicken in them. petco does have natures variety instinct. you could try one of those. its high protein and has helped some bullies with allergies. thats all i see really i would feed that is grain free and chicken free. avoderm and pinnacle seem low protein as well. earthborn is good but you would have to order it and nvi has a limited ingredient but you would have to order that as well.
